Flight
TIA is an international airport in Albania's capital.
Travel Note
Best to travel with the local currency (Lek) and to carry cash. Many places in Albania do not take card payments. (P.S. You will also want cash to throw at the wedding which is an Albanian tradition)
Hotel
We are looking into the best options for a reasonable price and a comfortable stay. We will update this section with hotels we recommend as soon as possible.
House Or Rental
The venue is technically in Peza, but we recommend you stay in Tirana. The venue is about 20-30 min away from the capital. If you chose this option, we recommend looking for Airbnb's around the Blloku neighborhood, the Air Albania Stadium, Skanderbeg Square, or Komuna Parisit.
Travel Note
Cabs are the best way to get around Tirana if you are not renting a car. Albania does not use car service apps such as Uber or Lyft. They also have a public bus system if you are feeling adventurous to try that. As New Yorkers who are used to walking around the city, Enea and I have found that Tirana is pretty walkable as well.
Travel Note
If you choose to drive, please drive safely. Driving in Albania is not for the faint of heart. If you are a confident driver, you shouldn’t find it too hard to drive in Albania. However you should be aware that other people’s driving can be quite erratic. Plus, many of the roads are unpaved or not in great condition. So be prepared to negotiate a few difficult routes during your trip. Albania’s motorways are in good condition and will be easy to drive on the main roads between major towns. The main hazards you can experience are when driving in smaller towns and villages, where roads are often not as well maintained. Some hazards to be aware of are: -Unpaved roads -Very steep, narrow, cobbled roads in historical towns such as Berat and Gjirokaster -Steep, winding mountain roads, sometimes without safety barriers -Animals, including cows and goats, wandering in the road
Rental Car
The best option is to rent through the airport. August is a busy season in Albania, so we suggest that you book your car rental in advance to ensure availability.
Rental Car
Another option for Rental Car if you would prefer not to book through the airport.
Travel Note
There is a bus terminal (Regional Bus Terminal North and South Albania) that you can find buses to other cities in the country if you do not want to drive yourself. I highly recommend exploring the Albanian Riviera or Historic sites across the country! You can get from Tirana’s city centre to the Regional Bus Station by taxi or with a city bus. From the city centre of Tirana, it will take you approximately 20 minutes to get to the Regional Bus Terminal.
