The wedding events will be in Edinburgh, Scotland! Our ceremony is TBD (potential outdoor location in Hollyrood Park) and the reception and party will be at the Granary at the Shore, a lovely neighborhood in Leith. For those coming from overseas, you can either try and fly to Edinburgh itself (most likely needing a stop off), or fly into London and get a train from there. GB Guests: trains run from all corners to Waverley. From here, you can take buses, a taxi or a short walk to the tram stop to get you elsewhere in town. By car: the A1 also brings you to the South East of the city, where a short drive will see you arrive in Leith, ready for the wedding. Public transport is pretty good in Edinburgh, with buses and trams running regularly. If you're American and planning on staying somewhat near the place's we're recommending, like Leith and New Town and Calton Hill/Leith Walk Area/Meadowbank/Old Town/Tollcross, you shouldn't need a rental car. It's not worth it, especially if you are not used to manual cars and driving on the left side of the road and the car. Between Ubers, buses, trams, and walking, you will be golden! If you are curious about seeing more of Scotland (which we strongly recommend you consider, there are not only trains that runs to all part of the lovely island, but there are many amazing guided tours. We HIGHLY recommend Rabbie's Tours, we'll link them below. Madeline went on a one day tour of the highlands, driving in a bus with a small group all the way up to the southern tip of Loch Ness, stopping in Fort Augustus, Glencoe, Loch Lubnaig, Callander, and Pitlochry. It was nothing short of life changing. (Yes, we found Nessie). If you have any questions about certain areas or how you will get to us, don't hesitate to ask! There are some helpful links below about getting around, and where to stay, on here and the "things to do" page, but reach out if you need any advice <3

Flight

Edinburgh Airport

There are a few different options for airports for guests flying into the UK. We recommend flying into the Edinburgh Airport (EDI) if you are planning on only staying in Edinburgh for your time abroad. Should you choose to venture out further, like to London for example, it is typically a cheaper option for most major US airports to book a roundtrip ticket in and out of London Heathrow (LHR). You can take the scenic 4-5 hour train along the east coast of Engand from London King's Cross Station (KGX) to Edinburgh Waverley Station (EDB), or book a flight from any London airport (I'm partial to Heathrow) to Edinburgh. There is also an international airport in Glasgow (GLA) if you are interested in visiting another major city in Scotland. There are trains and coaches that go in between the two cities, with the train taking about 1 hour. There are so many options! Please let us know if you have questions or need recommendations, as we are both seasoned travelers specifically in this area <3

Train

Edinburgh Waverley Train Station

Waverley is the main station within Edinburgh, and the most likely one to arrive into (some may go via Haymarket, only a short distance away). For those wishing to explore more of Scotland while here, numerous Scotrail services depart from here, fanning out across the country. For anyone wishing to venture south of The Wall, numerous direct services also leave to major English cities, including London, Newcastle, Birmingham and the West Country.

Rabbie's Tours Edinburgh Departure Point, Edinburgh Bus Station

St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3DQ., United Kingdom

Lifechanging guided tours, that range from day trips to 10-day-intimate-group-tours all around Scotland and the outer islands (and more!). I cannot recommend utilizing them enough. It is absolutely worth it, and you will make incredible memories no matter which trip you choose. Madeline has personally been on the day trip of the Highlands, all the way up to Loch Ness and back in one day. It's their longest tour they do in one day, and it was so exhausting and so worth it. Madeline got to walk mere feet away from a male elk. It is worth it alone for Glencoe. Their tours depart from Edinburgh Bus Station Pick Up, Gate J and Gate K, inside Edinburgh Bus Station.

Travel Note

Edinburgh Accommodations

When it comes to Edinburgh accommodation you’ll find a huge variety of options. From chic hotels and welcoming B&Bs to quirky "self-catering" apartments and budget-friendly hostels, there is a fantastic choice of places to stay and rooms in Edinburgh. We recommend looking at bed and breakfasts/guest houses! Madeline stayed at 23 Mayfield and immediately decided it was her life's goal to own a bed and breakfast. Scotland definitely knows how to do cute accommodations!

Train

Edinburgh Trams

Click the link for information on getting the tram to and from the Edinburgh airport! These are also handy for certain journeys within the city, taking you from the West End, down Princes Street, through New Town and onwards to Leith and Newhaven

Travel Note

Airport Shuttle

The Air Link bus is a very convenient and inexpensive way to get to and from the airport! All the information can be found by clicking the link, including pricing for individual tickets, etc.

Travel Note

Lothian Buses

Take a look at the buses offered in and around Edinburgh, as that is the main public transportation offering. Google maps is a very reliable source to find bus stops and timetables. We do not recommend using Apple maps for this (trust me...)
