Cape Town, also known as "The Mother City," is a coastal city off the Western Cape of Africa. Here's a few tips when preparing to visit: • During December, the temperature is comparable to San Diego, though it can get cool at night. • The official currency is the Rand, and while primary payment is cashless, having a bit of cash on you for giving tips is a universal language. To exchange your cash stateside, check with your bank or local currency exchange. • Speaking of funds, a using a travel credit card is ideal for Cape Town. You can avoid additional exchange fees while keeping your account secure, and there's tons of options that come with perks. We prefer the Capital One Venture X for the lounge access, TSA benefits, and points - feel free to reach out if you'd want to know our experience! • While Cape Town is an incredible city with beautiful and diverse communities, it's still a city much like the ones we have in the USA - be mindful of your surroundings after dark.
• We recommend changing your phone's plan to an international plan or getting an E-Sim, depending on your phone model and carrier. Apps like Google Maps, WhatsApp, Facebook, and others will run perfectly! • Airalo is an app you can download in your Android or Apple App Store, and it's a great option to use if you don’t want to/can’t use your local service provider. It only works on unlocked phones, so contact your carrier to make sure. If you use code "MADDIS4780" you'll get $3 off your package!

"Garden party formal," bright/bold color, and cultural attire are encouraged!
We understand the ceremony may not be accessible for everyone, so in case you won't be able to attend, we will provide a live stream that you can participate in. Link TBD
Cape Town is pretty small in radius; therefore, everything is pretty accessible by car. • The Waterfront is excellent if you are looking for a more prominent hotel chain and access to many walkable restaurants, tourist attractions, shopping, etc. • The City Bowl of Cape Town holds the heart of the city. If you're looking for a central location in the heart of the city, you may like options throughout here. • Sea Point and Camps Bay have easy beach access, along with incredible restaurants to go along with the sunset views. • If you're looking for a house, we usually stay in the Claremont/Rondebosch area, and there are tons of options nearby. https://www.cozycozy.com/ https://www.airbnb.com/
We have taken Ubers from the airport, and it's very accessible and convenient. Once you land and go through security, you need to head to the “E-hailing pick-up area”. It is located at Parkade P1 where you need to escalator down and that's where you'll meet your driver.
We will be getting married at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, there will be signs directing you to where the ceremony will be, but if you're lost, the reception is at the Moyo Restaurant on the garden grounds and the ceremony is close by.
Although we would love everyone to attend, the people listed on your invitation are the only people invited to the wedding. However, if you'd like to travel with someone, they are more than welcome to join us at different events during the week.
Renting a car is a great option if you have a valid driver's license. Please do your own research to make sure it qualifies. Keep in mind that many cars are manual and right-hand drive (there are automatic vehicles, just not as common), which means you'll be switching gears with your left hand. We have only rented a car once (automatic) because we were going on a road trip. Otherwise, we have used Uber with zero issues, and it's very affordable. For example, from the area of Rondebosch to the Downtown Area, it was around $12 or under.
We've dedicated our registry to collecting donations to help us buy a home in our City of Angels. While your presence at our wedding is gift enough, should you wish to buy us something, we'd greatly appreciate a contribution towards our goal. https://www.zola.com/wedding/maddiandtheo/registry Thank you!
