Ian planned a beautiful proposal that was supposed to be the weekend before Harry came - however, Harry had different plans and was very eager to be there for the big day! Harry arrived on a Tuesday and Ian was insistent that we were going for a hike on Saturday. He seemed really excited about it and wanted to take me to our favorite restaurant afterwards - Arethusa al Tavola in Bantam. Not ever being able to turn down great food, I agreed to go. We drove into the middle of nowhere, eventually arriving at a dirt lot. We got out, I put Harry in my sling and we started slowly walking down the hiking trail. We got to a beautiful tower and I started to get suspicious. I walked to the top of the tower, certain there was a proposal waiting at the top. Fifty spiral steps later, I looked at the spectacular view, kissed Harry and Ian, then walked back towards the car feeling really confused. As we neared the car, I was thinking "gosh I was so certain he was going to propose." As I thought this, I realized there was a man crouching in the woods and I quickly tell Ian to check out that guy taking a dump right on the path! Then, out of nowhere, our dog Charlie comes bounding through the field towards us - in typical Charlie-style - bouncing like a frolicking deer. I was so surprised! How did Charlie get there?! When Charlie got to us, Ian leaned down and untied a box from his collar, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. It was a beautifully magical moment (pooper and all)! The pooping hiker was actually our friend Mike, videotaping the proposal for us. Mike and Kevin snuck into our house after Ian and I left, stole Charlie (who was way too willing to leave with strangers), and met us there. We’re so lucky for friends willing to do so much to make that moment special! We ended the night with our first dinner as a family of 3, yum! Delicious cheeses, oysters, cocktails (my first in a long time!), and ice cream! Harry slept angelically the entire time.
