Mackenzie and Austin’s love story kicked off in the fast-paced, degeneracy-fueled chaos of the Emergency Department in Portland, Oregon. The year was 2021—Austin had just moved back to the U.S. from Australia to be closer to family, and Mackenzie was a seasoned ER nurse who had seen it all… or so she thought. Enter Austin: the charming new grad with a dashing accent, a knack for history and politics, and a relentless curiosity about the world. Mackenzie was immediately intrigued—not just by his looks (though, let’s be honest, that didn’t hurt) but also by his quick wit, boundless enthusiasm for adventure, and the fact that he could talk for hours about literally anything. Austin, in turn, was captivated by Mackenzie’s sharp expertise, infectious energy, the way her butt looked in scrubs, and the many hobbies she insisted he had to try (whether he liked it or not). And, of course, her… spicy personality kept him on his toes. What started as a secret workplace romance quickly turned into a partnership fueled by a shared love of travel, food, spontaneous adventures, and wildly ambitious future plans. After six months of dating in Portland, they decided to put their relationship to the ultimate test—by throwing themselves into full-time adventure mode. They packed up their lives, hit the road as travel nurses, and spent the next two years bouncing from one new city to the next. Whenever they weren’t working crazy ER shifts, they were off exploring—hopping between countries, chasing new experiences, and making memories everywhere from the beaches of Southeast Asia to the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and Colorado Rockies. Mackenzie proudly introduced Austin to her Midwest roots, bringing him back to Minnesota time and time again, where her friends quickly decided they liked him just a little more than her. Meanwhile, Austin introduced Mack to his family, where she was immediately adored by his nieces, who may or may not love her more than him. After surviving the highs and lows of a nomadic lifestyle, working through a pandemic, and somehow not getting sick of each other after living in tiny spaces together, they made their way back to Portland—the city and community they couldn't quite shake. These days, they continue to sell their souls working in the ER, while Austin works toward becoming a commercial pilot, fulfilling a lifelong dream of flying high (literally). Then, in November 2024, Mackenzie had a minor setback—by which we mean she dramatically broke her leg in a freak ski accident on day one of the season. Devastated, she begged Austin to leave her behind and go on without her. Instead, he did the only logical thing—he popped the question, reassuring her with the most romantic words he could muster: “In sickness and in health, or whatevah.” Now, after countless adventures across cities, countries, and hospitals, they’re ready for their biggest adventure yet—throwing an unforgettable party to celebrate their love with all the amazing people who have been part of their journey.
