Me and Mary met in college thanks to one of my best friends (and college roommate), Steve. Mary needed a stand-in actor for a commercial her mom’s business was shooting. She asked Steve to star in it and bring a friend. Steve couldn’t do it so he volunteered me and another one of our buddies. I gladly accepted and pretended to be a doctor for the day, on the off chance I might get to hang out with Mary for a little bit. The day ended and she actually ended up going on a date later that week with our friend who co-starred with me. I never followed up and thought my chance was lost. Years later, I saw her Snapchat story of her at a Kentucky Derby party while I was at the actual Kentucky Derby, so I decided to send her a snap to brag a little. We started talking a bit and agreed we should meet up for drinks when I got back home. We met in Winter Garden at a bar, had a few drinks, and sat and talked for hours in the park across the street. At that point I saw the girl I missed out on in college and I couldn’t wait to see her again. After that first date, the rest is history.

I met both Mary and Lucas at Florida Southern College. I knew both of them separately, from very different social circles. Lucas, was a brother of mine in Sigma Chi and Mary, my little sister in Zeta Tau Alpha! From the very first time I met Mary, I realized just how similar we were. We had so much in common and truthfully, it felt like we had known each other for years. Mary is the kind of friend who is constant, no matter the distance and I’ve always been profoundly grateful for that. When Mary and Lucas first started dating, I think I was just as surprised as anyone else who knew them both separately. But, we all came to realize just how good of a match it truly was. So, when Mary called me and asked if I would officiate their wedding, I was beyond honored. It’s not every day that type of request comes across your plate, but the opportunity to play such an important role in the wedding of two friends from two very important walks of life was a no brainer. Mary and Lucas, I am thrilled to walk in this season with you and to be the person who helps you start your marriage.
