How We Met

Give him the ol' right swipe

Although we feel like we've known each other our whole lives, truthfully we'll have known each other for 2 years once we wed! It all started when Luci was looking for new friends when she moved to Alabama to work on her Master's degree. She got on the app Coffee Meets Bagel in the hopes of convincing someone to be her friend when she came across Bryan. His profile picture featured a very good beard, prompting her to give him the ol' right swipe. He did the same before starting up a conversation that would end up leading to them meeting for the first time.

Our First Meeting

...and when Bryan realized just what he was getting himself in to

Bryan and Luci met at a Starbucks where they settled in for over an hour of conversation and laughs. Of course, by this, we mean Luci talked nonstop the whole time while Bryan laughed out of nerves, no doubt, wondering how to get a few words in. They felt comfortable around each other, so much so Luci (with thoughts of safety thrown out the window) got into Bryan's car and they drove around Bryan's hometown so he could show Luci all that Tuscaloosa has to offer. Considering that Tuscaloosa has very little to see, this was over quickly and Luci and Bryan were now hungry from all that talking and listening (respectively). They had a nice lunch at Mr. Chen's Chinese Restaurant, a spot they both loved, before the inevitable "Can't believe we just spent 5 hours together even though we barely know each other but let's hang out again!"

First Impressions

Luci went home that night and called her best friend, Alison and told her all about the meeting. Was it love at first sight? No, not at all. The call consisted of Luci telling Alison that Bryan was boring and barely said two words to her, though she was sure they could just be friends. Meanwhile, merely miles away, Bryan met up with his best friend Cameron and his wife, Khrisia. He told them he'd met a girl who was intriguing and he couldn't wait to get to know her better. He knew that together they'd be a pretty big deal. And I'm sure you can guess who was right...

Falling in Love

Some of our favorite memories

As you can guess... Luci and Bryan fell quickly in love. It was about 2 weeks after their first meeting that they decided to be official. And by "they decided" we of course mean that Bryan called Luci his girlfriend and then, when Luci pointed it out, he said "Yeah... is that cool?" It was *very* cool. They went on countless dates after that - enjoying hot dogs at a baseballl game, having game nights with friends, and always taking time to explore Birmingham. There, they ate at cool new restaurants, found interesting little shops, went to the museums, botanical gardens, and zoos. It was in this city their love really bloomed.

The Proposal

"I blacked out"

A week before Valentine's Day, Luci and Bryan went on one of their monthly date nights. That evening, Luci had just gotten her nails done, joking with her nail lady that the color she chose, "Blushing Bride", would bring her good luck that night. They traveled to their favorite city of Birmingham and tried out a new restaurant, where they discussed their relationship up to that point - how happy they were! - and had one of the best meals of their lives. Luci thought that Bryan definitely wouldn't propose this night - he was way too calm and not nervous at all! After dinner, Bryan suggested they go to the Vulcan Statue and see the city at night. Luci happily obliged. Once at the top, the looked over the city of Birmingham with all its calm lights. They tried to ignore the sound of a dog barking below as they talked about all the memories they'd made in the city. Finally, Bryan looked right into Luci's eyes and said, "We've made so many memories in this city. How about we make one more?" He got down on one knee, popped the question, and Luci managed to get out a "Yeah!" through many tears. Bryan got up to hug Luci and beaming, said "Wait, did you say yes? I blacked out." And they'll live happily ever after...
