Description: 'Anand Karaj' is the Sikh wedding ceremony meaning ‘blissful union.’ The morning begins outside the temple with the groom's procession where families of the bride and groom meet. Everyone shares a light breakfast meal prior to the formal proceedings. The main ceremony takes place in the prayer hall, where the couple walk around the Guru Granth Sahib (holy scripture) as hymns are sung which marks their union formally. Afterwards, everyone shares a lunch meal together. Please be respectful as the temple is a holy space. Upon entering the prayer hall, guests remove their shoes, cover their heads, walk up to the Guru Granth Sahib to bow their heads to pay respect, give a coin donation, then sit on the floor with men and women seated apart.
4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Following the wedding, Lucas and Misha will be taking wedding photos. All other guests are invited to return to the Sangha Residence to partake in the tradition of the 'Doli' upon our return. The 'Doli' marks the bride's emotional farewell as she leaves her parental home to begin a new chapter with her partner. To make this tradition meaningful and lighthearted, the bride’s siblings and cousins often set up playful games for the groom. These friendly challenges symbolize the groom proving himself worthy of accompanying the bride from her family home. Once the games are completed, the bride departs with her family’s blessings, and the celebrations continue as she enters this new phase of life. We will continue the celebrations into the night with food, drinks, music and dancing.
