As many of you know, Cory and I are both musicians. These music circles are quite small, everyone knows everyone and it's hard to meet people you don't already know. In the Spring of 2016 Cory and I were both attempting to find love on Tinder when I saw a profile and it was some handsome guy playing a Marimba. It said he was at USC currently as a DMA student in percussion. Knowing several people in the studio, I immediately messaged my dear friend and now Bridesmaid Alissa asking for details on this mystery guy! She responded saying that he was the Cory she would talk about ALL the time when she was talking about school. After several days of messaging back and forth, Cory finally asked me on our first date. I went to his house and we cooked together for the first time (and now one of our FAVORITE things to do together) and the rest is history!
Two Lovers Sat on a Porch Bench Sarah and I obviously love music, but our go-to playlist might be a bit different than most. For example, when we met one of the pieces that we both love and connected about was Einstein on the Beach by Phillip Glass. This is a really cool opera that usually takes over 5 hours to perform from start to finish, and has some hauntingly beautiful music and lyrics. We really bonded over one specific part of the piece titled “Knee Play 5”. In this part, a narrator tells a story of a couple sitting on a park bench. The character “John” then proceeds to beautifully exclaim his love for his partner. I thought these lyrics and the music they are set to were so perfect I just had to use them in my proposal. So I changed the lyrics a bit to fit our specific setting (also my name isn’t John), and got some of our friends to take the role of the narrator. Sarah got home at about 1:00 on a Sunday. Luckily she didn’t see the congregation of all our friends’ cars across the street (not surprising), but she did think it was weird that I was out on the front porch all dressed up. I sat her down on our ‘porch bench’ and started to FaceTime a friend who couldn’t be there in person. Sarah was only confused for a few more seconds until her pastor and his wife, Gary and Patti, came out of the house and started narrating. After they said their part, more friends started to come out of the house to add their own parts. Sarah was already sobbing, as expected, and didn’t stop until she said “Yes!” Huge thank you’s go out to all of our helping hands that day, it wouldn’t have been as amazing without you all! The script is too long to post but check out the video of the proposal! Video Link https://youtu.be/fQ1MPAevi2U
