Touro Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in the United States. A building of exquisite beauty and design, it is considered one of the ten most architecturally distinguished buildings of colonial America. In his famous letter to the “Hebrew Congregation in Newport,” written in 1790, President George Washington pledged that our new nation would give “to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.” The Loeb Visitors Center offers two floors of interactive exhibits that enhance the visitor experience.
