If you're making a weekend around our nuptials, join us on the D & D Beer Crawl on Saturday! We have chartered 2 buses to take us around to some of our favorite watering holes (Pond Farm, Ernie's Tin Bar, Seismic Brewing!). These buses will pick up and drop off at the Four Points by Sheraton in San Rafael (p/u at 1:00, d/o at 9). We've got the bus, and to make life easier on the breweries kind and patient enough to host a party of 70 we have put down our credit cards, so you can Venmo us for whatever you drink. We'd also appreciate gratuities to the driver, as well. To help us with the head count, please RSVP to this event separately from the RSVP to the wedding. Cheers!
Need a workout to work-off the bomb menu and wine we have planned for you at the wedding, hike up the renowned Dipsea Steps and hit the trail. Park in Mill Valley, hit the 680 steps, and hike the almost 10 mile out and back (or, do like, 3 miles, then turn around and head back ;))
The trailhead to Cascade Falls, in the Cascade Canyon Open Space Preserve, is just over a mile from central Fairfax. From the (always crowded) parking lot, the trail will take you just 1.2 miles roundtrip to the falls and back. At 20 feet tall, Cascade Falls is no Niagara, but it's still a gorgeous stretch of water in a lush forest that seems more Pacific Northwest than Bay Area.
Our recommended hotel in the area for point of reference on the map. You want to know how far you'll have to Uber to the bars, right?
Great brewery with an open floor plan, comfy accommodations, and really good beer (Dom particularly likes the Devil's Gulch Hazy IPA).
From downtown Fairfax, Lake Lagunitas ($8/day entry fee)is a scenic 15-minute drive away. The mostly flat, mile-and-a-half hike around the lake is achievable for even the most die-hard city slicker, and despite its proximity to civilization, the quiet little lake feels as remote as the Sierra. With benches strategically positioned along the walk, you won't be able to resist sitting a spell and taking in the view.
Bon Tempe Lake is a reservoir to the southwest of downtown Fairfax that can be accessed by a short hike from the paid parking lot ($8). The four-mile loop guarantees a flat and pleasant stroll for gazing at the shimmering water and bird watching—if you're lucky, you might spy a bald eagle.
Know where the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame is? Yup. Fairfax is home to the Marin Museum of Bicycling and Mountain Bike Hall of Fame(1966 Sir Francis Drake Blvd.), and it's a really fun place to spend an hour looking at the evolution of bikes over the past two centuries. You can also learn about mountain biking's most influential figures. For the record, the original Hall of Fame was in Crested Butte, Colorado, but moved to Fairfax three years ago because Marin sort of "invented" mountain biking.
It's a well-traveled circuit in Fairfax: dinner at Village Sake followed by ice cream at Fairfax Scoop(63 Broadway Blvd.) a tiny shop barely the size of a giant sundae. Like many of the Bay Area's top ice cream makers, Scoop uses Marin's own Straus Creamery milk as its ice cream base, then offers a host of organic ingredients. Strawberry ice cream that truly tastes like a peak ripe strawberry? Vanilla honey lavender that tastes of big Marin meadows? Your choice (tough one, eh?).
Great little small town saloon. Chances are good we'll be there for a wedding after-party ;)
Hell of an uphill climb, but worth it if the waterfalls are flowing. Earn your beer!
Really good sausage and hella beer. We're feeding you really well at the wedding, but if you need a snack and to pre-game a bit, this place is good and, like, just down the street from the venue.
