The Wedding Website of Lizbeth Chapa and Jeffrey Pence
Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so you do NOT need a passport. Vieques is a small island off the mainland of Puerto Rico. More than likely you'll fly into San Juan International Airport (SJU) and then get to Vieques from there via ferry or a short puddle jumper flight. We are confident you will fall in love with this island the way we have and we thank you for considering making the haul out to celebrate with us!

Flight

Flight

After flying into San Juan International (SJU), we recommend arranging a "hopper" flight over to Vieques. You can save some money by flying from Isla Grande Airport (SIG) rather than flying from SJU. To get Isla Grande Airport you'll take a short 15 minute cab ride or Uber from SJU. There are plenty of Ubers and taxi vans located outside of the airport that can take you there. We recommend flying to Vieques via Vieques Air Link - https://www.viequesairlink.com/. The flight from Isla Grande will cost about $85 per person for a 20 minute flight. The time saved is WORTH IT! You can also compare flight times and prices with Cape Air and Air Flamenco. If flight times don't work for you from Isla Grande or SJU, you can also take an hour, $80 cab or Uber ride to Ceiba Int. Airport (RVR) and fly to Vieques from there. The flight is about 10 minutes and runs about $40. Please plan accordingly and know there are no late flights to Vieques. *See FAQ section for COVID travel updates*

Travel Note

Ferry

After taking an hour, $80 (for up to 8 people) taxi ride or Uber from SJU to Ceiba, you can be dropped off at the ferry dock to experience the ferry system. The ferry system is seeing continual improvements, including a small catamaran that makes the trip from the dock at Ceiba several times a day. It takes about 30-45 min on the passenger only catamaran compared to the larger cargo ferry that runs several times a day as well, but that takes twice as long. Tickets can be purchased online (porferry.com) or at the ticket counter for $2 per person. This is definitely the more affordable option to get to Vieques, however, riding the ferry can be quite time consuming and the ferry system can be VERY INCONSISTENT (even more so with COVID), so please plan ahead. Please note: - You must arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure time - The ferry schedule tends to change frequently and there are possible delays due to weather - Puerto Rico residents take priority over tourists when boarding

Rental Car

Transportation

Publicos are shared vans that are available on the island and are typically available at both the airport and ferry terminals. This is a great option for travelers on a budget! Publicos can take you anywhere on the island, but will not transport you to more remote beaches. Publico trips from the hotel to the airport can be arranged by the front desk at El Blok. We prefer renting a car when we're in Vieques because we love exploring hidden beaches, but by no means is a rental car necessary to experience Vieques. We've always rented our cars from Maritza's Car Rental, maritzascarrental.com or (787) 741-0078, which range from $60-80 per day depending which car you choose. They have golf carts, Kia Souls, and Jeeps--any of these will work on the island. You can also rent cars from Avis (787) 397-2533 or Vieques Car Rental (787) 741-0078. **Transportation will be provided to and from El Blok and the beach ceremony on wedding day. **

Hotel

El Blok Hotel

158 Calle Flamboyan
Vieques, Vieques 00765, Puerto Rico
 +1 787-741-6020

We have reserved the entire hotel at El Blok which consists of 30 rooms. The hotel is offering reduced rates on four types of rooms ranging from $160-$232. Our room block is from Thursday, July 1st to Sunday, July 4th, however, room rates will be honored for two nights on either side of the room block dates should you wish to extend your stay. Guests may book individually by calling the hotel directly or by emailing kaytee.erteld@elblok.com and referencing the Chapa/Pence wedding. This is our favorite place to stay on the island (and where Jeffrey proposed). We found this to be the most convenient place for people to stay since it is where our wedding reception will be held. Also it is the start of "the Malecon" which is where there are various restaurants and bars within walking distance.
