It was 2014. He was in box office. She was in concessions. And the Amazing Spider-Man 2 was now showing in theaters near you. Grant and Liz first met as coworkers at the Delano movie theater, where they laughed and goofed off together in between printing tickets and serving popcorn. After they graduated high school, they parted ways but were never too far apart, both attending college in the same city. Eight years after their first shift together, Grant and Liz re-met on Hinge. "Oh snap! It's Liz!" Grant messaged. "Look, it's Grant from the theater!" Liz said with a smile as she showed her phone to her friends. They met for their first date on September 7, 2022, at Cheapo Records, where they each bought a copy of a Fleet Foxes album before heading over to Lu's sandwiches, where they sat and talked for hours. Was this a date? Or were they just meeting up as friends? "You found each other on a dating app," their friends told them. "It's a date." Grant and Liz fell in love over attending concerts (Alvvays was their first concert together!), sharing slices of El Mar's pizza and taste-testing ramen around the city, camping up on the North Shore, and taking pottery classes together. On their two year dating anniversary, they decided to recreate their first date. They walked into Cheapo Records, and Grant held up an Alvvays record. Liz was pretty sure that one of them had bought that album before, but Grant convinced her they hadn't. (Surprise: they actually DID have that album already—but owning two copies of the same album felt serendipitous, reminding them of their first date.) They then enjoyed some bánh mì sandwiches at Lu's, and Liz suggested going for a walk in their favorite local park. The two walked around the park together, stopping in a little clearing where the paths met to take a photo together. Then, they continued on their way, eventually looping back to where they'd parked the car. "Let's walk back through," Grant suggested, so they turned around and passed through the clearing once more before heading to another part of the park. After a while longer, they turned around and strolled back in the direction of the car. "Can we take the long way back?" Grant asked, gesturing to the path they'd now explored twice. "The car's right there," Liz protested, but she gave in, and back into the trees they went. When they reached the clearing for the third time, Grant stopped walking. Liz was oblivious. "Why are you stopping?" she asked, and Grant answered by getting down on one knee. They celebrated over the weekend with their annual trip to the North Shore, and now they can't wait to say "I do" there later this year.
