Flight
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) is located less than 30 minutes from the city center. The railway station is inside the airport building and a direct train gets you to Amsterdam Centraal station in 15 minutes. Uber also works in Amsterdam! Or, you can take a Tesla taxi. Renting a car in Amsterdam is a bad idea. Parking is expensive and hard to find. Walking and biking are the best ways to get around the city. If you want to venture out of Amsterdam, you can rent a car by the day or the hour or take the trains, which are excellent. At payment terminals (such as for train tickets) you must use a card with a PIN code. If your credit card doesn't have a PIN code, use a debit card.
Travel Note
Both wedding venues are in the city center, so it's easy to walk or bicycle everywhere. Bicycle lanes are well marked and there are special stop lights for bicycle traffic. Amsterdam is the Bike Capital of the World. Dutch cyclists are intense and everywhere, so be careful! If cycling is not your thing, take an Uber or buy an "OV chipkaart" for Euro 7.50 at the railway station, which you can use for travel on trains, buses, trams and the metro. To get to De Hortus by public transit, take tram 14 (stop: Mr. Visserplein), or metro 51, 53 or 54 (stop: Waterlooplein ("Waterloo Square"), exit Hortusplantsoen).
Travel Note
Airbnb offers a variety of rooms, full apartments, houses, and even house boats. This is the most convenient and affordable way to book your accommodations. Of course, there are hundreds of hotels in Amsterdam, for every budget. You can decide to be right in the heart of it all, within the four main canal 'rings', or choose a location that is a little further out, which typically means less touristy and less crowded.
