If you plan to stay in Portland, just don't stay near the ICE building (which is near the South Waterfront area). We recommend sticking with mainly independent hotels. Plenty of options on VRBO if you don't want hotels (and sometimes the listings on there are cheaper than the same exact ones on AirBnB). Also BOOOO to Hilton.
