Kona International Airport (KOA)

Please fly into Kona International Airport (KOA) on the west shore of the Big Island of Hawaii (Kailua-Kona). The Kona Airport is about 30 minutes from the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. There are plenty of airline options in and out of Kona, including Southwest (directs from Oakland for Bay Area guests), Hawaiian Airlines, and United Airlines (directs from Denver for CO guests).

Getting Around the Island

If you plan to do some exploring outside of your hotel/rental, we recommend renting a car while you're on the island. Otherwise, we recommend booking hotel shuttles, taxis or Ubers in advance. Most hotels have shuttle services to and from the airport that you can book. We cannot guarantee the availability or reliability of taxis or Ubers so it is especially important that you book these in advance (or have your hotel book) if you are not staying at the Mauna Kea or Westin Hapuna. The Westin Hapuna provides a complimentary shuttle to and from the Mauna Kea.

Mauna Kea Residences

Best option for groups. The Mauna Kea Residences are set in the Mauna Kea Resort and offer a collection of condos, townhomes and private estates. You can either book these directly through the Mauna Kea or through VRBO/Airbnb. If you book directly, you are guaranteed access to the resort and all amenities. If you book through a rental site, we recommend confirming whether they allow resort access.
