The Wedding Website of Lilla Tölgyesi and Ben Sheehy
Our wedding venue is Új-Ebergényi Kastélyszálló in Vasszécseny, Hungary. Vasszécseny ("vash-se-chen") is a small village around a 15 minute drive away from Lilla's home town, Szombathely ("som-bart-ey"). Below you will find details of travel and accommodation recommendations for Szombathely, where our Welcome Party on Friday will be (we will be arranging transfers between Szombathely and our wedding venue on Saturday - details to follow). We have also recommended various things to do in Szombathely (and other areas if you plan on extending your trip!), in the 'Things to do' section.

Flight

Various

The easiest airports to fly in to are either Budapest or Vienna. Both are around 2-3 hours away from Szombathely by train / car. Both airports have many flights a day from all UK airports. We have provided details below for travel from either Budapest or Vienna, however you are also able to easily access Szombathely from any of: Bratislava (Slovakia), Zagreb (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Graz (Austria). Please message us if you need any help with routes from any of these places and we would be happy to help!

Train

MÁV

If travelling from Budapest to Szombathely by train, we recommend booking your travel through MAV (the Hungarian national train service). Note, there is no train station at Budapest airport, so you will need to get the 100E bus from the airport to Astoria metro station and take the Metro line 2 (red line) to Keleti Pályaudvar (Budapest's main train station). There are ticket machines outside the airport terminal and at each station. Alternatively you can get a taxi from outside the airport to Keleti Pályaudvar or request a bolt taxi (c.€23 - €31). Direct trains operate from Keleti Pályaudvar to Szombathely and take around 2.5 hours (fast train) and run every couple of hours with the last train leaving just after 8pm. The cost per person is around HUF3,700 (slightly under €10) for a 2nd class ticket or HUF5,000 (around €12.50) for a 1st class ticket. The only real difference is the seat size / space.

Train

OBB

If travelling from Vienna to Szombathely by train, we recommend booking your travel through OBB (the Austrian national train service). There is a train station at Vienna airport (Flughafen Wien). The journey takes around 3 hours from Vienna Airport to Szombathely and you have to change 2 times: 1) Flughafen Wien > Wien Hauptbahnhof (Vienna's main train station) 2) Wien Hauptbahnhof > Sopron. Note: the final destination on the train will be shown as Deutschkreutz. The train will separate at one of the stops on the way, so you will need to be in the green and yellow half of the train (not the red and black). 3) Sopron > Szombathely. Note: the final destination on the train may be shown as Szentgotthárd. The price for a single ticket should be around €25 per person.

Rental Car

Klass Wagen

If booking a car rental, we recommend you use a price comparison website to find the cheapest option. If picking up a car in Budapest, Klass Wagen is typically one of the cheaper options we have used. If you are intending on hiring a car from Vienna, there is typically an additional fee for driving across borders. The drive from Budapest to Szombathely is around 2 hours 30 mins and the drive from Vienna is around 1 hour 45 mins.

Travel Note

Taxi information

Rádió Szombathely Taxi is the local taxi app whilst staying in Szombathely (search on the app store), although most places in town are within walking distance (interesting fact: Lilla's family didn't actually own a car until she was about 16!)
