As you may already know / guessed from the location of the wedding, Lilla is from a relatively small town in western Hungary called Szombathely and whilst Ben sometimes likes to say that he's from London (and in all fairness has lived there for the first 10 and last 11 years of his life), he's an Essex boy through and through. Ben and Lilla first met when (despite being born in separate countries), out of the c.33,000 people who work for PwC UK, they both managed to end up in the small Real Estate Financial Due Diligence team of around 20 people in the PwC London office. Lilla moved into the team in June 2021 and on her first day messaged her friends to let them know there was a "really hot guy on the team who looks like he has just walked in from Love Island". However, Lilla also thought that Ben gave off the vibe of "I'm busy, don't talk to me" and unlike their other colleagues, seemed generally uninterested in making new friends / socialising. Lilla has since realised that this was just Ben's resting bitch face and once you get past the cold exterior, he genuinely is uninterested in making new friends / socialising. Ben's frostiness was thawed when their mutual lack of punctuality meant they wound up sitting next to each other at the work Christmas dinner. Ben in a cheers and beers Christmas jumper and Lilla in a Christmas llama-themed jumper. Lilla has since continued her theme of very tenuous Christmas animals and owns a dashing and surprisingly popular set of Christmas whale pyjamas. They're a thing ok! In the following months they became friends and would bond over war stories of disastrous projects they have had to work on. Whilst you may hear otherwise from some of their friends, they promise their chat has since improved.
As the months went on and they became closer, some of their colleagues started to notice that there would be hours of the day that both Ben and Lilla would be absent from their desks... strangely at very similar times of the day. They would plan that one of them would return to their desk and the other would follow 5 minutes later so that it was very clear they had not been getting coffee together for the last hour. Sadly, their deception was not as successful as they had thought and at a post-work drinks their colleagues disclosed to them that they had termed their mutual absenteeism "Project Venus". Realising the game was up, they decided to come clean, involving some awkward conversations with senior team members, where they questioned how they found time in the day with their busy jobs to date. Newly liberated from looking over their shoulders to see if someone could see them walking out the office door 20 metres behind each other, they spent more and more of their free time together. Highlights of their dates included a trip to Lina Stores (an Italian restaurant in London) where Lilla made it clear that sharing a burrata was not an option and that if Ben would like some burrata, he would need to order one for himself. They decided to move into a flat together in Bermondsey in August 2023. As excited as they were to move in, they "accidentally" booked tickets to see Kygo on the supposed moving date. Undeterred by this mishap, they are still living in their first flat together, and loving every minute, although some of the house plants not so much. They welcome any tips on how to keep them alive and happy.
Since being in an "official" relationship (although still not Facebook official) they have learnt a lot about each other and had some great experiences together. Ben has learnt that Lilla can't say no to a Dishoom takeaway and Lilla has learnt that Ben can't say no to any sort of fried chicken. They've been on plenty of trips including visits to Budapest and Szombathely, where Ben's rudimentary Hungarian has stretched to such heights as being able to say he doesn't want milk with his coffee. See the 'Things to do' section for some of the recommendations from their trips to Budapest and Szombathely 👀. They have also managed to (survive) a couple trips to Ibiza, which of course required some warm up at Printworks, and a trip to Prague where Lilla gave Ben a history lesson on the thieving Czechs stealing "chimney cake" from the Hungarians and passing it off as their own. Note: you should definitely try these when you are visiting, they are excellent! More recently, they took a trip to Italy where Ben decided to shave his beard, leaving only a moustache, which Lilla found surprisingly attractive and felt like she had a holiday romance with a man strikingly similar to Ben, but preferred to go by the name "Pablo".
Ben plucked up the courage to ask Lilla to marry him in June 2024, although she might have had a little idea it was coming as they went to see their wedding venue in April 2024 on one of their trips to Hungary! Just in case... Ben planned a trip down memory lane of their relationship involving small clues hidden in pink envelopes to various stops at some of the most meaningful places to their relationship including breakfast at Dishoom, lunch at Lina Stores (where Lilla finally shared her burrata) and a trip to their favourite coffee shop in Borough Market alongside a few others. Unbeknownst to Lilla, one of the stops was a trip back to their flat which had been secretly decorated with 100 peonies and candles whilst they were hunting around London, which is where Ben 'popped the question'. After they went to celebrate at their favourite cocktail bar (the Lyaness) and went for dinner at Gymkhana, which Ben had to fight tooth and nail to stop Lilla going to before 8 June, which included messaging her boss to tell him to move a project celebration meal which was booked at Gymkhana 3 days before the 8th! Since then they have been busy planning their wedding and can't wait to share their special day with all of you.
