You should plan to be in Szombathely for the evening of Friday 20 June 2025 with our wedding taking place on Saturday 21 June 2025 (please refer to the the 'Schedule' page for further details). Outside of these two days it is up to you! You can fly in on the Friday and out on the Sunday or spend some time traveling around before / after the wedding. We would love for our friends and family to spend some time exploring Szombathely, Budapest and/or Vienna and have provided some recommendations in the 'Things to do' section to help. There are also a number of other easy to access places from Hungary including Graz, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Lake Bled, Lake Balaton and Zagreb.
The main currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (interesting fact: Hungary's previous currency, the pengő, holds the inflation record in the world economy: at some points in 1946, prices in Hungary were doubling every 15 hours). A lot of places in Hungary also accept Euros and you can pay by card / contactless / Apple Pay in most places (including taxis). The official currency in Austria is the Euro.
Hello - Szia (pronounced see-ah, to one person), Sziasztok (pronounced see-ah-stok, to more than one person). Generally used with people you are familiar with / younger than you. Good morning, good afternoon/day, good night - Jo reggelt (yo-reg-elt), jo napot (yo-na-pot), jo éjszakát (yo-ay-sa-cat). More formal way of greeting someone. How are you? - Hogy vagy? (hodj vadj?) "gy" in Hungarian is read as one letter, with the closest sound in English being the "d" in "during". I am good thank you - jol vagyok, köszönöm (yol vadj-ok, koos-ooh-noom) Goodbye - Viszontlátásra (vis-on-la-tash-ra - formal), alternatively you can also use "Szia" to say goodbye where you would say "Szia" to say hello to someone. Do you speak english? - beszélsz angolul? (be-sels ang-o-lul) I would like a beer - szeretnék egy sört (seret-nek edj sh-urt) / kérek egy sört (ke-rek edj sh-urt) table for two/three/four - asztal két/három/négy főre (as-tal kate/ha-rom/nadj fur-re) yes - igen (e-gen) no - nem Sorry, I don't speak Hungarian - elnézést, nem beszélek magyarul (el-ne-zesht, nem be-se-lek madj-ah-rule) I am English - én angol vagyok (ain - an-gol - vadj-ok)
Vasszécseny, Kossuth Lajos utca 36, 9763 Hungary The ceremony and the reception are taking place at the same venue.
Yes there is some parking available. Please let us know if you are planning to drive and we will make sure there is space for you.
Our ceremony will take place outdoors in the grounds of the castle with the reception taking place indoors. If it rains there is space indoors to host the ceremony. We recommend flat soled shoes or wedges for the ceremony to avoid sinking into the grass.
As our venue is a c. 15 min drive from hotels in Szombathely, we are looking at having shuttles between the venue and Szombathely and will update our website closer to the time. Taxis will also be available.
The dress code for our wedding is formal attire. We suggest that men wear a suit in any colour and women wear a cocktail dress (there are no specific length requirements - but please use your discretion) or a nice pantsuit.
June in Hungary is typically mid - high 20 degrees with sunny weather.
We are making every effort to include as many people as possible. We will specifically state on your invite if there is space for a plus one. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
While we love your little ones, we are very sorry that we are unable to accommodate children at our wedding. We hope that you will understand this decision and that you will still be able to join us on our special day.
We are discussing our menu with the venue, however we would like everyone to get to enjoy some Hungarian cuisine (no rooster testicle stew however!) and so will prioritise Hungarian food. The chefs are also Hungarian and so this is the food they will be best able to prepare. If you have any specific dietary requirements please let us know as part of your RSVP when formal invitations are shared.
Did you even need to ask? The reception will go on until 4am.

Please note that we will have official wedding photographers and videographer and will happily share our professional images / videos with you after the wedding.
Yes - please do! Particularly if you would like to post photos of your outfits, the venue etc. We would also love to see photos of your travels and any places you visit. However we request that you refrain from posting photos of us and the more intimate parts of the wedding (such as the ceremony) on social media until we have had a chance to post ourselves. Thank you for your understanding.
Please RSVP under the 'RSVP' page by 31st March 2025.
Yes! We recommend visiting the ‘Things to Do’ page of our wedding website, where we’ve compiled all of our favorite local hot spots and fun things to do in the area, including coffee shops, spas and restaurants to visit before or after the wedding.
