In late summer 2020, Libby moved from the big city to Hudson, WI for practical reasons: in-state tuition at UW–Madison and staying close to Minneapolis just in case offices reopened (COVID WFH forever). What she didn’t know was that renting a house she’d never seen, in a town she’d never been to, would turn out to be the best decision of her life. As an introvert during peak COVID times, Libby didn’t meet many people—until her neighbors forced her to come over and play cards. When school plans changed, she decided to stay in Hudson (yet another excellent decision). In May 2021, while taking out the trash, Libby was summoned by Deb—the fun, mysterious neighbor from across the street who always seemed to be hosting a backyard party with great music. Deb yelled across the fence for Libby to come hang out, casually asked about volleyball, and within a few minutes had passed along Libby’s number to her son, Bobby, who was always recruiting for his bar league team. Libby showed up to Guv’s knowing only Deb, the team’s biggest fan. That’s when Bobby introduced himself—confident, chatty, and not shy at all. It wasn’t love at first sight (they both thought the others height was all wrong), but brunch turned into drinks, drinks turned into everything, and conversation came way too easily. Bobby caught feelings. Libby pretended the height thing mattered. One fateful night, Bobby asked, “What are we?” Libby let her heart win—and the rest is history.
