Dos Ojos Cenote is one of our favorite cenotes! There are several cenotes in the same area that you can explore. There is an entrance fee per person. Bring googles to see the complex underwater caverns and watch out for scuba divers!
Tulum is a popular town that is ~20 minute drive from Akumal. It’s known for its beaches and well-preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city. The main building is a large stone structure called El Castillo (castle), perched on a rocky cliff above the white sand beach and turquoise sea. Near the ruins is the Parque Nacional Tulum, a coastal area with mangroves and cenotes. Tulum is also a great place to shop, drop-in on a yoga class or have a delicious meal/cocktail!
There are water activities galore from snorkeling with turtles to kayaking! Many Air Bnb's include kayaks and snorkeling gear or there are lots of vendors in the Akumal Town Area that will help you organize any trip at a reasonable cost. We highly recommend bringing snorkeling gear as you can swim with turtles right from the hotel beach!
