Mackinac Island is one of the most gorgeous places you will ever visit. 82% of the Island is a State Park. If you are able, we highly recommend walking through the trails of the island and seeing some of the best landmarks Mackinac has to offer. This includes Arch Rock, Sugar Loaf, Fort Holmes, Anne's Tablet, Crack-in-the-island, British Landing, and much much more (including the spot we got engaged)!
If you are a first timer to the Island, or haven't been in a long time, the carriage tours could be your best opportunity to see the popular sites of the island. You will be shown around the island in a horse drawn carriage, seeing the sites and hearing the history of what makes Mackinac Island so unique!
While you are here, you MUST try some fudge. While Joanns is our personal favorite, there are many amazing fudge shops along the downtown strip. Every single shop will give out free samples, so just go for a walk down main street and try all the fudge your heart desires.
There are 2 golf courses located on Mackinac Island, both with clubs available to rent. And yes, they have golf carts so you don't need a horse to pull your clubs for you.
If you love history, Fort Mackinac is a must on your list. The fort hosts live programs, tours, exhibits, rifle demonstrations, and cannon firings along with a staff of reenactors. And of course, there great views of the Straits of Mackinac.
If you are able, we highly recommend renting a tandem bike and biking around the island. The loop is about 8 miles and takes around an hour to complete. Of course there are amazing views of the clear blue Straits of Mackinac and a great shot of the Mackinac Bridge once you hit British Landing.
