In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the term 'sealing' refers to the joining together of a couple (and their children, if they have them) for all of time. A civil marriage lasts until death; we believe a sealing lasts forever. In a Latter-Day Saint (LDS) temple, a couple can choose to be legally married AND sealed together. While a civil marriage can occur practically anywhere, a sealing can only be performed in a temple. In order to enter a Latter-Day Saint temple, one must be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have a certain level of religious understanding and beliefs. Because not all of our guests will be able to join us for our sealing in the temple, we are choosing to perform our legal/civil marriage in the Brown backyard so everyone can be in attendance.
