Our Wedding is taking place during the earlier part of the mountain biking season, many of the high-elevation classics will not be riding yet, but there will still be plenty to ride in the CB area. If you need to get a bike, there are plenty of shops in the area you can rent from and we suggest renting ahead of time. Check out Handle Bar Bike and Board http://handlebarbikeshop.com/ in downtown Crested Butte or Crested Buttes Sports https://crestedbuttesports.com/ up in Mt. Crested Butte, or any of the other bike shops in the area (Big Al's, The Alpineer, Elevate/Butte & Co). You can get updated Trail Conditions from the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association. Feel free to donate to this awesome non-profit! https://crestedbuttemountainbike.com/trail-information/conditions/ Check out Hartman Rocks in Gunnison if things aren't dry around CB CB Area Trail Recs: Intro Ride: Lupine 1+2 and Lower Loop Medium Skill Ride: Happy Hour/Upper Loop/Tonys or Strand Hill Advanced: Doctor Park
Stand-Up Paddle Boarding is a great way to experience the rivers and lakes in the Crested Butte region. Will and Lauren would often SUP the Slate River on the Town Stretch as a morning and evening activity when mountain run-off allowed, and our wedding is great timing for that. If Irwin Lake has melted out (20 minutes east of town on Kebler Pass), SUPing up there can be a treat below 13000 ft.-high Mt. Owen or you can go a little further out on Kebler Pass to Lost Lake (about 40 minutes from town) with great views of East Beckwith. Check out the family friendly "Post-nup SUP" on the event tab on Sunday afternoon to float the Town Stretch of the Slate River with fellow wedding guests. It's about a 2 hour adventure with a short drive back into town. Mike at the Float Shack is offering our wedding crew 20% off on rentals with the code: will22 . You can book through his website on the link below.
Fly Fishing is just starting to get underway in the Crested Butte area during our Wedding. Make sure to get a Colorado Fishing License either online at CPW or a local guide shop. If you want to catch anything, it's best to go with a guide on a float trip or walk/wade along the Gunnison, Taylor, or East Rivers. You can also do some spin reel casting on the Blue Mesa and Taylor Reservoirs, or Irwin Lake (if it's melted out). There are many places to walk or hike right out of downtown Crested Butte or the base of the Mount Crested Butte. Options may be limited depending on elevation and aspect (North facing and higher trails will likely still have snow and mud on them during our wedding). With a car you can access plenty of trailheads in the valley where you can do quick out and backs or short loops, like in Brush Creek, Cement Creek, or Taylor Canyon. Local shops like the Alpineer will have the most up-to-date beta. Some of the higher All-Trails Recommendations in the link will still definitely be under snow so look for lower elevation hikes on south facing slopes. The town of CB is at 8885' feet so pack plenty of water and give yourself time to acclimatize if possible. Check out the "Lowlander Hike" on Friday in the Schedule tab, RSVP to Ros: RossieCross@aol.com for lunch!
