Nottingham Lake
Located in nearby Avon, this is an easy, relaxed spot to spend a few hours. You can paddleboard, kayak, fish, walk the loop around the lake, or just hang out on the grass with mountain views. Great if you want something outdoors that is fun but not intense.
Outdoor Concerts at Ford Amphitheater
One of the best places in Vail to see live music with mountain views all around. During the summer, they host free Hot Summer Nights concerts on Thursdays. Arrive early, bring a blanket, and enjoy a relaxed evening outside.
Pitkin Lake Hike
A challenging but beautiful hike that starts right in East Vail. It climbs steadily through pine trees and opens up to incredible alpine views. If you go all the way to Pitkin Lake, you are rewarded with a quiet mountain lake surrounded by peaks. It is a great option if you want a true Colorado hike.
Booth Falls Trailhead
This is one of the most popular hikes in Vail for a reason. The trail takes you to a waterfall and, if you keep going, to Booth Lake. Expect a good workout and amazing views the whole way. It is about 6 miles round trip to the falls and longer if you continue to the lake.
Berry Picker Trailhead
You can hike from Lionshead up to the top of Vail Mountain. It is steady uphill but rewarding, especially if you ride the gondola down.
