Many years ago Liam and Lauren met while attending a spring calculus class. They were assigned to the same group and instructed to exchange information in case fellow group members needed help. As students went around in a clockwise fashion to introduce themselves it was clear that everyone in the group was friendly and eager to help, until it was Liam's turn. After providing his contact info Liam's first words were; "Hi guys, I am not here to make any friends since I probably won't see any of you ever again, so its probably best to get help from someone else". Liam then turned around and went back to sleep at his desk. Liam's plan to not be bothered was working - then randomly one day at school, Liam received a call from Lauren seeking help with her dead car battery. Before Liam jumped to the opportunity to help Lauren, he asked her if he was the first or the last person she called. When Lauren explained he was the last person she had asked for help (since no one else was available), Liam agreed to help because Lauren was honest with him! It was at this moment that Liam and Lauren's relationship started! Subsequent movie and dinner dates proved that the relationship was turning into something special. Since the beginning of their time together expectations and honesty was never an issue, and both agree this contributes to the wonderful long-lasting relationship they have today!
While planning a family reunion in South Africa in September of 2017, Liam knew it was the perfect opportunity to turn it into something special. Since our families are split between America, Europe and South Africa, Liam thought it would be perfect to offer a memory to distant family that misses out on the day to day! After months of designing and getting a ring handmade in South Africa, everything was coming together during the reunion in Durban, South Africa. On the particular morning, Liam decided that it would be fun to go on a hike without all the other family members tagging along, and also take the opportunity to check out the beautiful cliffs that overlook the ocean. But, before the hike began, Liam told his older brother Willie to have everyone ready with the champagne when they get back from the hike! The hike started out quite scary since the tide was coming back in, and the cove that Liam and Lauren needed to cross was getting overrun by rough waters and Lauren wasn't too thrilled. After some encouragement and a brief climb (and unbeknownst to Lauren) they had made it to the spot! The setting could not of been more perfect, beautiful crisp clear skies, rough but clear ocean waters and standing on a cliff overlooking the Indian ocean. Liam knew the time was now, so he convinced Lauren to take some pics of them by placing his camera on the rocks. Also, unbeknownst to Lauren Liam hit record instead of a camera timer, then while transitioning to the next pose Liam was on one knee and popped the question! Lauren was completely shocked! She had no idea, but she said YES! The moment was perfect and will be remembered forever! Then on the return hike the whole family was waiting with champagne ready to celebrate!
