Malcolm's parents are getting married!

After months of anticipation--and, let's be honest, going out almost every night in Champaign--Laura and her law school classmates finished the two-day bar exam on July 26, 2017. Jack Jablonsky invited Travis to be his date to happy hour that evening at Old Crow. Allegedly, Travis introduced himself to Laura (Laura does not recall this. Hey, there were free drinks on the law school's tab). Laura left for a month-long Europe trip the very next day and didn't see Travis again until Jack's birthday party in September. Travis was very intrigued by Laura's loooooong list of restaurants she wanted to try while living in Chicago, and they quickly made plans to go on a double date with Jack and Angela the next week. Thus began many months of Travis very patiently trying to woo Laura while she and Megan McKisson lived their best single girl lives in River North. Eventually, Travis decided to give it one last try, and he took Laura to dinner at Bohemian House (RIP). Unfortunately for Travis, he had eaten a bad hot dog earlier at the Cubs' opening day game and spent most of the date getting sick in the bathroom. Fortunately for Laura, this incident made her realize just how much she liked Travis. The rest is history. Laura and Travis spent five years eating around Chicago and traveling the world, making such memories as: Hiking the Inca Trail in Peru! Exploring Mayan caves in Belize! Seeing a Gators game with Laura's aunt and uncle! Attending business center meetings in Michigan at the Jablonsky house! Getting robbed outside of Napa Valley!!!! After three years of living together and raising the sweet baby angel Malcolm, Travis decided to call Fritz and ask for his blessing to marry Laura. Fritz responded, "That's nice. Now anyway, here are all the distilleries I'm visiting on my Bourbon Trail trip--" Travis took this to mean yes. In October of 2023, Travis took Laura to Acadia National Park and, after two weather-thwarted attempts, proposed to her on the Maine coast. They celebrated by demolishing roadside lobster rolls and pounding oysters at their new favorite spot in Bar Harbor. Oh, and she said yes. We are so excited to spend the rest of our lives eating the best food together, having one of us be disappointed when the Cubs and Cards play each other, and being just late enough to the airport that Travis starts sweating. We cannot wait to celebrate with all the people we love most!
