We met at the Chicken Box, the local dive bar, on Halloween in 2015 (in case you were wondering, Bowen was Harry Potter, LD was Waldo). Over the course of the next year, we became pop culture buddies, trading movie and book suggestions.
There was something there, but we never really got a chance to explore it because Bowen left Nantucket in September of 2016 to pursue his film dreams in Los Angeles, and LD left the island a few months later. We had promised to stay friends, but with different time zones and new jobs and schedules, lost contact.
In October 2018, three years after we originally met, we got back in contact on Instagram. Bowen was still in LA, and LD was in Florida. We started texting every day, then talking on the phone every day, and then LD came to Boston for a visit over Christmas break. We decided to give this thing a go, despite living on opposite sides of the country and having very different work schedules. Many cross country flights were taken, many trips to Disney were taken, and many memories were made. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it!
After 4 years of friendship and exactly 1 year of dating, Bowen recreated their first real date and proposed in front of the Massachusetts State House on the Freedom Trail in Boston. It was magical and everything LD had always dreamed of, though she doesn't really remember what he said.
Unfortunately due to COVID-19 we were forced to make the difficult decision to postpone our wedding celebration until 2021, when we hope to be able to gather safely with all of our family and friends. We decided to still get married on our original date, and our civil ceremony was held at Sankaty Head Lighthouse, just a few blocks away from our original location. It was officiated by our dear friend Steve Scouras and our parents and siblings were the only attendees. It was a special and joy-filled day, but we can't wait to do it all over again and celebrate our 1 year anniversary with all of you!
