Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced “Pond-O-Ray”) is the heart of Sandpoint and the perfect setting for our big day! Surrounded by mountains and filled with clear, glacial water, it’s Idaho’s largest (and deepest!) lake — a place full of beauty, peace, and a little adventure. Whether you're boating, swimming, or just enjoying the views, it’s easy to see why we love it here. In August, the lake is warm, the sunsets are stunning, and the small-town charm is in full swing. We’re so excited to share this magical spot with the people we love most!
City Beach Park is Sandpoint’s favorite summer hangout — a sandy stretch right on the lake with incredible mountain views, calm water, and plenty of room to relax. Located just steps from downtown, it's perfect for swimming, picnicking, volleyball, or just soaking up the sun.
If time allows, we highly recommend taking a drive up to Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort. During the summer, the chair lift is free and doesn't require a reservation in advance. Enjoy the most spectacular views of Lake Pend Oreille and the mountains surrounding Sandpoint. There are also nature hikes all around the mountain as well as mountain biking trails and horse back riding.
This is our favorite hike in Northern Idaho. Some of the best views of Northern Idaho and Montana AND mountain goats. This hike takes around 5 hours roundtrip to complete so bring your hiking shoes and snacks for an incredible hike! There isn't a single street address for the Scotchman Peak trailhead, as it's located on Forest Service roads requiring a vehicle, preferably a high-clearance one. To reach it, drive to Clark Fork, Idaho, and then turn north onto Main Street, which becomes Mosquito Creek Road (Road #276). Follow the road past the high school, stay left at the fork, and turn right onto FR 2295. At mile 3.1, turn left onto FR 2294, then left again onto FR 2294A to reach the trailhead.
If you're looking for a fun place to grab food or a drink on the lake, Hope, Idaho is just a 25 minute drive from downtown Sandpoint. The Float House is a floating houseboat restaurant right on Lake Pend Oreille that offers great food, views and drinks. Laray worked at this restaurant every summer through high school and most of college.
