Established in 1845, the groom's alma mater is the Navy's undergraduate university that produces approximately 1,000 new Navy and Marine Corps officers each May. We highly suggest planning a stop at the visitor center for a quick video introduction to the institution he called home for four years. You can follow that with a guided tour around the campus -- commonly referred to as "the Yard" -- where you will learn about "the God of 2.0," the Herndon Monument climb, the largest dormitory in the world, how 4,000 meals are served in about 5 minutes, and most importantly, how a goat came to be the USNA mascot. An even better idea is to grab one of Nick's classmates and insist on an alumnus tour that shows off his/her memory of "Yard Gouge." For additional entertainment, stop a young midshipman on the Yard and ask, "What are the four names on the Mexican Monument?" or "How's the cow?" or "What is the 5th law of the Navy?" If the midshipman can't answer, tell him or her, "Report back."
"Come about!" and "Fake down that line!" Annapolis is the sailing capital of the U.S. Check out the Eastern Shore via the Chesapeake Bay on a gorgeous schooner, especially the famous schooner "Woodwind II," featured in the movie "Wedding Crashers"! Can't you just hear Christopher Walken now: "A Sailor?!"
"Crab cakes and football!!! That's what Maryland does!!!" You can't come to Annapolis without eating some crab! Going outside of DTA is worth it for this awesome crab and seafood shack!
Check out the restaurants, bars, and boats for a quintessential Annapolis experience along Ego Alley. The name comes from the queue of expensive boats that parade through the waterway. When Nick and I sit at Pusser's and watch the boats, we think the owners are probably looking back and laughing at our envy. What they don't know is that we are laughing at their insurance premiums!!!
If you don't leave Annapolis convinced that crab cake is a currency unto itself, you're wrong! Another awesome crab shack! This one is in DTA!
What is your favorite quote from the Declaration of Independence? While you contemplate that question, check out this gorgeous mansion and grounds, home to a signatory of the Declaration.
