Question

Where is the wedding and reception?

To get to the Sylvan Lake Auditorium, you'll follow any navigation to the Sylvan Lake Entrance Gate (24571 SD-87, Custer, SD 57730). Past the park entrance, there is a parking lot on the left side of the road where you'll find the General Store. Follow the sidewalk to the right of the store and you'll find us! Speaking of reception...

Answer

We could take this time to request an "unplugged ceremony," however, Sylvan Lake will likely take care of that for us! Cell service is limited in and around Custer State Park and you may not have access to wifi or navigation depending on your carrier. We recommend downloading a map or taking screenshots of any driving directions you may need!

Do I need to pay for a Custer State Park Pass?

Answer

If you're only attending the wedding, NO! When you arrive to the Sylvan Lake Entrance Gate, mention to park staff that you are attending the Siemers Woodbury Wedding and you'll receive a complimentary Custer State Park day pass. If you already have a South Dakota Park Entrance License (the windshield sticker), you do not need anything more to enter the park. If you are planning to do other sightseeing in the Black Hills while visiting, we recommend purchasing a Custer State Park temporary license ($25) at any CSP ranger station. This will allow you access for 7 days. Wind Cave National Park has no entrance fee and fees for Badlands National Park is $30/car and is good for 7 days.

If I am staying at the Sylvan Lake Lodge, what is the best way to get to the wedding?

Answer

There will be a complimentary shuttle to bring you from the lodge to the auditorium prior to the wedding and around the end of the reception (9-10pm). It is approx. 5 min drive. You're welcome to drive yourself to the auditorium as well.

How early should I plan to arrive?

Answer

We recommend arriving at least 30 mins prior to ceremony start if you are driving. It is peak season in the Black Hills and parking at Sylvan Lake may be a 5-10 min walk away if the main parking lot is full. Outside the main parking lot, cars use the side of the road for parking.

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

Pending weather, the wedding ceremony will be outdoors on the Lakeview Patio and the reception indoors in the Auditorium.

What should I do if I don't make it into the room block?

Answer

If you miss the deadline to reserve a room in our block, reach out to the hotel and mention our wedding anyway, they may be able to accommodate you. If not, you can find additional nearby accommodations on our travel page.

What is the weather like in the Black Hills?

Answer

Summer in the Black Hills is sunny, dry, and warm! Most days the high will be in the 70s and 80s and cooler mornings in the 50s. If you're looking up weather as we approach the date, Sylvan Lake typically runs 10 degrees cooler than Rapid City.
