No sparks flew when Kyle and Annie first met in 2016. He worked in the student senate, and she took the minutes. Two years later, the two found each other again working at Sunset Lake Camp where a friendship grew and a poorly timed spark finally ignited. Just when the they were catching feelings for each other, Annie jetted off to Costa Rica for a gap year. Some months after her return, Kyle missed the best opportunity to share a first kiss with Annie at the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse viewpoint. He made up for it four years later when he proposed to her there.

Annie suspected something was up when Kyle suggested the two go browse for rings during her winter break. Upon her arrival, Kyle slipped a love note to Annie (written on a shared typewriter) welcoming her home for the holidays and concluding with a list of activities he planned for the two of them. These varied from a Pink Martini concert, cross-country skiing, backpacking, fancy dinner date, weekend getaway, and ring shopping. "Cross off all of these and return this letter for a surprise." This put Annie on high alert. Asking leading questions about what kind of surprise was waiting for her, she was met with the verbatim, "It's not what you think it is." She backed down and was conveniently preoccupied with take-home exams to press the matter further. Once her exams were done, Kyle whisked her away for a weekend getaway to Astoria. Upon checking into the hotel, they cozied up to watch The Goonies. Kyle fell asleep 10 minutes in. They explored the surrounding areas the next day, mostly on the hunt for Goonies filming locations. At Ecola State Park (where the Goonies find the spooky hut), Kyle persuaded Annie to take a short hike with him. Near the end, Annie went on ahead to take in the view at the cliff's edge. Noting a bouquet of flowers tied to a tree nearby, her first thoughts were concern over the possible accident that might have compelled someone to bring flowers to the site of the tragedy. Kyle ignored this and asked Annie for a kiss while he reached into his pocket for something. Just as soon as they finished embracing, Kyle was on one knee asking Annie to marry him. She was very taken aback and couldn't believe what was happening until she looked over to see her friends hiding in the bushes to photograph the moment. Of course she said yes. And Kyle kept his word, the 'surprise' at the end of his letter was not what she thought it'd be. Instead it was a gourmet home cooked meal.

After a brief honeymoon, Kyle and Annie will move to Aarhus for the last semester of her masters. Since they both have completed graduate studies in Europe, they plan to start their life together there. Come visit! We would love to show you around.
