Q: Do I need a visa to travel to Ireland? A: No, but you will need a passport! If you need a new or updated passport, be sure to check with your local DMV to get an idea of how long it may take to get in time for our trip. Some places may be willing to expedite this process if you have upcoming international trips scheduled.
Q: What should I consider packing? A: Ireland experiences its warmest weather in August, but keep in mind that the temperature in this climate is moderate (not too warm not too cold). We will likely experience weather between 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit during this time, so please be sure to pack accordingly! Ireland is known for its rain, so we recommend packing versatile, comfortable, and weather-appropriate clothing, particularly items that can handle rain and cool temperatures. Essentials include a waterproof jacket, layers, and comfortable walking/waterproof shoes. Don't forget a day bag to bring when walking around the city and a travel adapter for UK electrical plugs (Type G plug)! A portable charger may also be useful when exploring the city as you often spend a lot of time using your navigation apps throughout the day.
Q: How should I plan to get from one place to another? A: Dublin and Galway are both very walkable locations. We highly encourage walking to take in the full experience, but public transportation can be very easy to navigate if you wish to take a city bus to further destinations. While many people bike in the city of Dublin, we suggest that only experienced city bikers choose this option as the streets are very narrow (riding only inches from traffic) and bikers are often not permitted to use the sidewalks to get around. Please also keep in mind that cars drive on the left side of the road if you decide to rent a car in Ireland. Uber is available as an option for traveling around Dublin, but you can also download the "FreeNow" app (European app owned by Lyft) for taxi services. For group trips or excursions outside of each city, we will most likely take trains as they offer greater flexibility with multiple departure times, but we may also organize bus tours if they offer a better experience. We will keep you informed once we've solidified plans for each group trip.
Q: If I cannot attend this trip, will there be an alternative celebration? A: While we hope everyone is able to make it to Ireland, we also know it is a lot to ask, so please do not feel pressured to attend if this isn't something you're able to do for any reason. Thankfully, we are currently in the process of planning a pre-wedding celebration in July that will take place locally for those that are not be able to make the trip. The plan will be to have a large, more "reception-like" gathering so no one feels like they are missing out on celebrating with us. More details to come as we get closer to the event!
