Steve and Kim first met at a pickup volleyball event at Adams-Ricci park in Enola, PA (right outside of Harrisburg), hosted by a mutual friend. After the game, the group headed out for dinner and drinks at Center Street Grille and Brewhouse Grille —where Kim intentionally sat next to Steve to get to know him better. We instantly hit it off, bonding over working for Penn State Health (Kim in strategy, Steve in neuromonitoring), coming from big families, and a shared love of IPAs. Kim even motivated Steve to cross a unique item off his bucket list: eating a raw onion like an apple. The very next night, Steve attended an engagement party for a friend—and to his surprise, Kim was there too. We spent the evening continuing to connect, and before the night was over, Kim invited Steve to join her and some friends at a concert the following weekend. He gladly accepted. Over the next several weeks, we played a lot of volleyball together - sometimes only going to pickup games if we knew the other would be there. We even coincidentally ended up on the same team in the Harrisburg Young Professionals volleyball league. It wasn’t long before Steve asked Kim out for our first official (non-volleyball) date. Three - soon to be four - years later, we've traveled across the U.S., spent a countless number of hours playing volleyball, tried over 500 different beers, and got our beloved dog, Squire.
Kim was starting a new job, so as a “last hurrah,” Steve planned a surprise weekend trip to Mohonk Mountain House, a mountain resort near the Catskills in New York. Shortly upon arriving, Kim and Steve embarked on a hike. What Steve promised would be an “easy walk in the woods - more of a nature walk than a hike” turned into us scrambling over boulders and climbing up ladders. This, however, wasn’t the first or second time we had gone on a crazy hike like this. In fact, it had become sort of a running joke in our relationship - we always unintentionally ended up on these intimidating and challenging hikes. Steve, who was planning on proposing sometime that weekend, knew that this was the perfect opportunity, as Kim was jokingly yelling at him the whole hike for allowing her to wear Converse on this "easy nature walk." So, at the top of the mountain, he pulled out the ring he was keeping in his jacket pocket and proposed! It was great getting to enjoy the rest of that weekend at Mohonk celebrating our engagement!
Ceremony at Boldt Castle: In August of 2023, we took a trip to Montreal. On our drive, we kept seeing signs for "Thousand Islands" and "Boldt Castle." For some reason, we decided to stop, not knowing anything about the Islands or the Castle. We ended up at the Boldt Yacht House, and without fully realizing what we were doing or what we were going to see, ended up buying tickets to take the boat shuttle across the river to Boldt Castle. We had a great time walking around Boldt Castle, and there was no doubt in our mind that the castle itself along with the grounds were beautiful. Fast forward to the spring of 2025, we were deciding where we would want to have our wedding ceremony. Kim really liked the idea of having the wedding at a place where we had been before on a trip. At one point, one of us said, "What about Boldt Castle?" Almost immediately, we decided that Boldt Castle was where we wanted to get married! Not only is Boldt Castle beautiful, but the entirety of the Thousand Islands is breathtaking. Reception at 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel: After deciding on Boldt Castle as our ceremony venue, we needed to determine our reception venue. We took a trip to the Thousand Islands to check out some different venue options, one of which being the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel. We both quickly knew this was where we wanted ourselves and our friends and family to celebrate. The Hotel sits right along the St. Lawrence River, offering picturesque views. It is also located in Clayton - a quaint, walkable town with shops and restaurants. We hope you will join us in the Thousand Islands!
