The average weather in late July in Portage, AK is highs in the low 60s and lows in the upper 40s. Occasionally, the temperature rises into the 70s which feels much warmer than 70 degrees in the lower 48, as the sun shines at a more direct angle in Alaska. The chances of rain are typically around 40%. We recommend closely monitoring the weather forecast so you can dress appropriately and bring the proper outerwear.
Yes! The venue is very kid friendly. There is even a playground right outside the reception hall. Just be sure to keep an eye on your kid to ensure they don't climb in the bear enclosure.

Yes! Beer, wine, and cocktails will be served. And yes, it will be an open bar - woohoo! However, please be reasonable about the amount you are drinking. We would hate for any guests to be kicked out by security. Alcohol may only be consumed in the reception hall. No alcohol is permitted outside. The venue isn't keen on drunken guests fraternizing with the wolves.
There will be plenty of free self-parking at the venue.
There will be a shuttle available to transport guests around the venue.
If you are driving to the venue, please plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to the ceremony start time on the invitation. We encourage guests to arrive closer to 1.5 hours prior to the ceremony start time to allow everyone to enjoy the Wildlife Conservation Center. The Seward Highway is the only road to the venue; there are no alternative routes. As such, accidents on that road can cause major delays and can sometimes shut down the entire highway. Plan accordingly and arrive extra early.
Please RSVP no later than Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
Please see the registry page. We are registered through Zola and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
No! Gifts are definitely not expected. We appreciate anything we receive, but gifts are not at all necessary. We recognize that many guests have already given gifts, and we certainly don't expect anything more. We know many of our guests are traveling a long way to reach the wedding. We just appreciate your PRESENCE. No PRESENTS necessary.
The ceremony will be held outside, even if there is light rain. If there is heavy, sustained rain, the ceremony will likely be held in a covered outdoor area. Come prepared to be outside in the rain. We recommend bringing an extra pair of shoes if rain is expected. The ceremony site is on a boardwalk, but the rest of the venue is located on unpaved, uncovered grounds. The reception will be held indoors.
