LaLaurie Mansion

LaLaurie Mansion

1140 Royal Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

A must see for murderinos and ghost adventurers alike. The LaLaurie Mansion is considered one of the most haunted houses in New Orleans. Although not the original home, this site housed the previous home of Madame Delphine LaLaurie from 1831-1834. Madame LaLaurie was a New Orleans Socialite revered for her beauty. It wasn't until 1834 when a fire broke out in the mansion that LaLaurie's serial killer status was brought to light. It was discovered that the mansion's slave quarters included a torture chamber which sadly led the deaths of several slaves. When news broke out a mob of local citizens took to the home to further destroy what was left of the damaged property, forcing the LaLaurie family into exile in France. The current structure that stands at the corner of Royal & Governor Nicholls St was completed in 1838. Fun Fact: The mansion was once owned by Nicolas Cage from 2007 to 2009 until the house went into foreclosure, which is probably why he can never say no to a movie deal.
