Flight
We recommend flying into Tokyo/Osaka, then flying into Misawa Airport. If you do plan on renting a car, car rental stations are located near the airport.
Rental Car
We recommend renting a car through Times Car Rental. Since our ceremony and reception are in the countryside, public transportation is a little limited. It is easy to book a vehicle online, and the staff have been able to accommodate English-speaking visitors. If you do go this route, please note that you'll need to acquire an international driver's permit from any AAA office for about $20 BEFORE being in Japan. When you need to pump gas, it's good to know that most gas stations in Japan are manned. Some are cash only. Simply tell the worker "reh gu la, mahn tahn de onegaishimasu"
Hotel
If you’re looking for something simple, comfortable, and close to everything, Hotel Aurum is a great choice. It’s only about 10 minutes from Misawa Airport and just a short drive from the wedding venue. The rooms are modern and cozy, and the staff are super friendly. It’s smaller and more affordable than the resorts, but perfect if you want a convenient and relaxing place to stay during the trip. They also provide a breakfast and dinner buffet at an extra cost.
Hotel
For those of you who want to splurge on an excellent resort stay, Aomori-ya is a great option. This resort features local paper lantern art and makes you feel like you’re at the annual Nebuta festival. They have 5 different onsens (hot spring baths/saunas) and they also offer rooms with a private onsen tub. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the breakfast and dinner buffets are delicious. Kian and I have stayed here twice and each time made for a memorable experience. Tip: if you book a stay with Hoshino Resorts, they sometimes offer a 10% discount for a car rental through Times Car Rental!
Hotel
This hotel is about an hour away from Misawa but it is one of our favorites. Situated alongside Oirase Gorge, it is an excellent hotel to feel surrounded by nature. Similar to Aomori-ya, this resort offers an onsen used by all guests, en-suite onsen tubs and a wide variety of unique amenities. Tip: if you book a stay with Hoshino Resorts, they sometimes offer a 10% discount for a car rental through Times Car Rental!
