About an hour from Agiasos is the Monastery of Taxiarches, dedicated to the island’s patron saint, the Archangel Michael. Here you’ll find the famous depiction of the Archangel crafted from clay and the blood of monks killed during an attack near the end of the first millennium. Just 30 minutes from Agiasos is the Monastery of Agios Raphael, a site very special to Dan’s Yiayia Dina, who visited many times to pay her respects. The monastery is known for its miracles and supernatural stories. For years, locals reported seeing the ghost of a monk, which eventually led to the discovery of Agios Raphael’s remains beneath the old ruins. The new monastery, built on that site, is now a major place of pilgrimage, drawing thousands seeking spiritual comfort and healing.
