We anticipate people trickling in during the days leading up to the wedding, with Kia and Dan arriving on Monday. Feel free to arrive from Tuesday on, and would recommend arriving by Wednesday night at the latest to avoid stress on the day of the wedding.
On Wednesday there will be 2 optional events which you should feel no pressure to plan travel around. For those who have already arrived, we will arrange an excursion during the day on Wednesday, followed by a welcome party in the village at night. We will be organizing busses to the excursion and directly to the village after for the welcome party, but if you wish to attend one event and not the other or arrive/depart on your own schedule, taxis are easily available throughout the island. On Thursday, the wedding ceremony begins at 6:30pm in the village. Busses will pick guests up in Mytilene earlier in the day (time TBD) to partake in some of the traditions leading up to the ceremony. After the ceremony, we will head to Mytilene for the partyyyyyy! See the "Schedule" tab for a detailed itinerary.
You can fly to the island from Athens in about 50 minutes, with several flights a day with Aegean airlines and Sky Express. Your departure airport is Athens (ATH) and arrival airport is Mitilini (MJT). There is also an 11 hour ferry from Piraeus port for those with a phobia of flying like Kia's mom. We would highly recommend booking a cabin if you choose this option.
Taxis are available at the airport. Those staying in Mytilene should have a drive of less than 20 minutes. If you're coming straight to the village then it will be about a 30 minute ride. If you are coming straight to the village, please let us know your arrival details and we will try to meet you in the main square. For the remainder of your time on the island, we will have optional events scheduled on Wednesday (plus one mandatory event on Thursday - the wedding lol), and there will be busses arranged to take you to and from the hotels we've listed in the accommodations tab. If you wish to explore beyond what we have organized, car rentals are available at the airport. Make sure you double check that your car is automatic, because the island can be quite hilly so this is not the time to learn to drive standard. Check out the "Things to do" tab for some of our recommendations!
There is no strict dress code for the wedding. For guidance, the village is quite casual, so summer cocktail attire is perfect. Think light, breezy fabrics and colourful summer outfits. Evenings on the island can get a little chilly, so we recommend bringing a light jacket or shawl. Also keep in mind that the village streets are cobblestone, so stilettos are not recommended.
Kia and Dan will hang around for a couple days as guests trickle out, so there's no rush to leave. If you're carrying on to other destinations, you will likely have to fly through Athens on the way. If you want recommendations on where to go after, feel free to reach out!
