Things To Do

We are so grateful to you all for coming to share this special day with us, especially to all our friends and family who will be traveling here from out of state. If this is your first time in Michigan, we hope you will have some time to explore and enjoy this beautiful state. Our wedding will be held in Flushing, MI, which to be honest is kind of in the middle of nowhere and not a whole lot else to do there. However, it is a little over an hour from Detroit (where Aly lived for 7 years) and Ann Arbor (close to where Kevin went to school) which are both great cities to explore. Also, depending on how far you want to drive, you can experience America's Fresh Coast at one of the Great Lakes. Below are a few of our favorite places to visit both closer to Flushing and around Michigan.
Frankenmuth

Frankenmuth

Frankenmuth, MI

Just North of Flushing, MI is this Bavarian town with lots of shopping, restaurants, and other activities. They are best know for Bronner's, a year round Christmas superstore, and either Zenders or the Bavarian Inn where you can get the famous Chicken Dinner.

Birch Run Premium Outlets

12240 South Beyer Road, Birch Run, MI 48415

Looking to do some shopping? Check out the outlet stores in Birch Run!

Bakersfield Detroit

Bakersfield Detroit

3100 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201

Looking for tacos and margs? This place is down the street from where Aly lived in Detroit and spent many sunny afternoons on their patio. Not to mention, this is where Aly and Kevin went on their first date!

Detroit Institute of Arts

Detroit Institute of Arts

5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202

For the art lovers. The DIA has an impressive collection and a great way to spend an afternoon strolling around.

Ashley's

Ashley's

338 South State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104

With over 100 beers on draft, you're sure to find something you like at this Ann Arbor institution. This was Kevin's go to bar while in college and still a favorite place to visit. He recommends the stilton fries, but Aly is not a fan of the stinky cheese fries.

Traverse City

Traverse City

Traverse City, MI

As the hometown of Aly's roommates, Sarah and Laurie, she spent many long weekends and holidays in this beautiful Up North city. Summers are a busy time here with several wineries & breweries, beautiful beaches, and a cute downtown to explore. You will not regret a trip here despite a little bit longer drive.

Port Austin

Port Austin

Port Austin, MI 48467

If you're looking to check out Lake Huron, we highly recommend this amazing beach town at the tip of the "thumb" a little over 2 hours from Flushing or Detroit. If you're up for a bit of a kayaking adventure, you can see the iconic turnip rock. Home to Abby's grandparents, she is a frequent visitor.

Holland

Holland

Holland, MI 49423

If you're looking to see Lake Michigan and enjoy a beautiful beach day, you can't go wrong with Holland State Park. Though you really can't go wrong with any of the beautiful towns along the west coast of the state or any of the State Park beaches.
