Please RSVP by May 31st, 2023 so we can have an accurate headcount.
We recommend spending three nights on the island with the following itinerary: Friday March 22: Arrive to Cancun and travel to Holbox Saturday March 23: Wedding! Sunday March 24: A day to experience the beaches and fun of Holbox Island Monday March 25: Departure day
Bring CASH. There is only one ATM machine on the whole island, and sometimes it doesn’t work. Plan 150 usd per day you will likely have leftover, this is for 2 people and for food and drink. Tours, transfer, tips not to servers not included. Trade a 1000 usd at your bank before you go, bring a card just in case. The more established places will take CC's. Also bring REEF SAFE sunscreen. Holbox Island is part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve.
Welcome to the Isla of Golf Carts! The transportation on Isla Holbox is made of golf carts, bicycles, and scooters. Golf Cart Taxis: The beauty of Isla Holbox is that there are no cars. The island has a taxi-like system of golf carts. Hail a taxi or your hotel can call taxis at your request. Bike: Since Isla Holbox is so small, bikes are an ideal mode of transport. You can rent one for around twenty pesos an hour at one of the shops around town. Many hotels offer bikes included in your stay. Inquire when booking. Golf Cart: Expect to see lots of golf carts rolling down the streets as taxis, personal vehicles, or rentals. You can rent a golf cart during your stay for an easy and affordable way to get around. Walk: Since basically everything is within walking distance, it is not unusual to walk everywhere. There is very little traffic or things going on in the streets so it’s safe to walk around.
There is one cell tower on the island so expect to be disconnected. Plan to enjoy this adventure unplugged and screen-free, aside from capturing moments in photos/videos and communicating together. WhatsApp is the preferred method of communication on Isla Holbox. Cell service is unreliable and wifi is rare, please plan to communicate on Isla Holbox via WhatsApp during our stay. Download WhatsApp now and connect with us. Send a message to the happy couple to say hi once your WhatsApp is functional. We are available via WhatsApp to you anytime.
Holbox Island is a very safe place for tourists to travel. People come here to relax without the worries and the stress of crime like in other parts of Mexico. Pickpocketing, mugging and drug crimes are all very low risk on Holbox, but be sure to always use general caution and avoid the beach at night. Consider brining a headlamp or flashlight to help guide the way at night.
Because of climate change, Sargassum Seaweed has been a recent problem on the Riviera Maya. Holbox Island doesn't have the issue nearly as bad as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, but ocean currents do what they want. If the 2024 seaweed season starts early like the 2023 season did, so be it. It's totally harmless! If you'd like to read more about it, there is information here: https://www.journeymexico.com/blog/update-on-sargassum-seaweed-affecting-mexicos-beaches
ABSOLUTELY!
