FAQs

Question

Why get married in Silverton?

Answer

Colorado's San Juan mountains are arguably one of the most beautiful places in the world. That's why we've come to this area every year since moving to Colorado. Knowing that we would have guests traveling from all over, we wanted to celebrate in a place that means so much to us and would provide a memorable experience for everyone. We know that Silverton is remote. But the people are kind, the history rich, and the views truly unbeatable. We promise it'll be a trip you won't forget.

Question

How can I avoid altitude sickness?

Answer

Silverton sits at 9,200 feet, nearly double the elevation of Denver. Please, we cannot stress this enough, DRINK A LOT OF WATER leading up to and during your trip. Eat carbs. Drink more water. If you are coming in from a lower elevation, we highly encourage you to spend one night in Durango or Montrose before traveling to Silverton. Acute Mountain Sickness, or AMS, can really put a damper on a high elevation trip. Also, please note that alcohol hits a lot harder 2 miles above sea level. Be mindful of consumption, your body will thank you!

Question

Where should I fly into?

Answer

Out of state folks can fly into either Durango or Montrose. Most departing destinations will have a layover in Denver, with the exception of Houston, Dallas, and Chicago that offer non stop service to Montrose. From Montrose airport, Silverton is 90 minutes south. From Durango airport, Silverton is 82 minutes north. From Denver, Silverton is 6 hours southwest. We apologize in advance for any fear or panic caused by the Million Dollar Highway. It's not that bad, we promise!

Question

Do I need to rent or have a car to get to Silverton?

Answer

Yes, unless you are flying into Durango. This provides you with option of taking the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which will drop you off right in town after a 3 and a 1/2 hour scenic ride. If you need any help deciding which travel path to take, let us know.

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

While we love your kids, our wedding is adults-only. If you need help finding a local sitter to the Silverton area, let us know.

Question

Can I bring a plus-one?

Answer

We cannot accommodate additional guests due to venue capacity. If you have a plus-one provided, they will be listed as a guest when you go to RSVP.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We've reserved the Avon Hotel and have some additional hotels and inns we recommend on our 'Travel' page. You can also book your own lodging through Airbnb or VRBO. Choose your own adventure!

Question

What is the weather going to be like?

Answer

While we have a general idea of what we'd hope to see, the mountains of Colorado are just as unpredictable as they are beautiful. At this time of year in Silverton, temperatures usually range between ~40 at night to ~70 during the day. Bring an umbrella just in case.
