Ross and I met when I was wrapping up my travels around Ireland and England. I had decided to end it by house sitting for two weeks in Edinburgh. Along with a gorgeous house in the city center, Ross and I dealt with an unruly golden retriever puppy and a moody black cat and played house for two weeks. The first time we met I was twenty minutes late and luckily, he waited for me. I did tell him I was going to be ten minutes late but then got lost, my phone stopped working, and I walked past the cafe three or four times before I was able to figure it out. We ended up going for a hike up the Pentland Hills, which was miserable and beautiful at the same time. It came out halfway up that neither of us actually liked hiking. We learned a lot about each other on the 4 hour long hike, like how Ross didn't have any interest in visiting the US, ever, or how it wasn't truly a date but just "two international pals" getting to know each other. The latter did not come out of my mouth. After making it back into the city, we continued on with our date/not date and went to every restaurant and bar where Ross knew somebody. It truly became a thing though, when we were stopped in the middle of the street late at night by yet another one of his acquaintances. There's not enough room to talk about how fun or perfect our first date was, but it was a damn good start to the two weeks we spent together and that led to us deciding to give it a go at long distance.
