No trip to Newport is complete without a ride along Ocean Drive — a scenic ten-mile stretch of coastline lined with ocean views, rocky shores, and historic homes. For us, it was a favorite escape during our Salve years and later one of our go-to drives together. The route ends at Brenton Point State Park, home to countless sunset dates — and the very spot where Jon got down on one knee. Roll down the windows, put on some good music, and take in the same views that have framed so many of our favorite memories.
Take a walk through Salve’s beautiful oceanfront campus — where we, and several members of the wedding party once crossed paths. The grounds are open to the public and offer stunning views of the Cliff Walk, historic stone buildings, and sweeping lawns overlooking the Atlantic. It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful afternoon walk and a little nostalgia.
If you’re looking for a laid-back Newport staple with great food, cold drinks, and plenty of outdoor seating, O’Brien’s is the spot. It also happens to be where we had our very first date — so it’s officially part of wedding history! Stop by for lunch, a casual dinner, or a round on the patio and raise a glass to where it all began.
Take in the crisp fall air and sweeping views on the famous 3.5-mile trail by the sea. It winds past historic mansions on one side and the ocean on the other—relaxing but still full of “wow” moments. Tip: Park near First Beach and start at the Chandler Hotel if you want to do the whole trail. Bring a light jacket and maybe plan it for the morning when the light is good.
Every Salve kid has been asked "where's the Breakers?" - so we know our mansions well. Explore a few of the grand historic homes built during the Gilded Age—think chandeliers, opulent décor, and big stories. Tip: Buy tickets in advance if possible, and allow at least 1–2 hours so you don’t feel rushed.
Take a relaxed walk with shopping, cafés, and waterfront scenery on Bowens and Bannisters Wharves. Both areas, right to next to each other, are fantastic for shopping, people-watching, and grabbing a bite or drink. Diegos on Bowen's Wharf was a frequented spot during college for the best Mexican food in the city!
