This is completely up to you! We suggest arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday and leaving on Sunday if you want to be apart of all wedding festivities. It is highly encouraged to spend even more time than that on the island - you won’t want to leave paradise!
It has been explained to us that due to the airline industry still recovering from effects of COVID-19, flight availability is limited at this time. When traveling to Cozumel, we typically book our flights less than a month in advance of trip with absolutely no issue. We are use to having several inexpensive flight options to pick from with average total travel time of 8 hours with only 1 connection. The current lack of desirable flight options available is not normal to us. We apologize for the stress around booking airline travel for the wedding. We will try to provide as many alternative travel options as possible. While we prefer to fly into Cozumel, flying into Cancun is also a great option! Flying directly into Cancun has its perks: many direct flight options are available on several airlines and typically is less expensive. See next FAQ for details on traveling from Cancun to Cozumel.
The great news is there are many options available! Like we mentioned before, we prefer to fly into Cozumel Airport but if that is not the most desirable flight plan for you then find other suggestions below: -Try looking at and booking flights as one way trips. Often times booking a round trip ticket can be an issue with one leg of trip being expensive or a long connection. - Look at flight options at larger International Airports like LAX or Cancun rather than local smaller airports like John Wayne or Cozumel. Read next FAQ on how to travel from Cancun to Cozumel. - Don’t forget to check SouthWest - they now fly to both Cancun and Cozumel! Or try using airline websites like www.skiplagged.com to find alternative flight options.
Flying into Cancun is a great option! Typically direct or shorter flights times are available and it can be an inexpensive option. Please make sure to read the below details if you are flying in to or out of Cancun: The travel experience is more adventurous when flying in/out of Cancun. After arriving to airport, a taxi/bus/car service will need to be taken to Playa del Carmen Ferry Terminal to catch a ferry to Cozumel Make sure arrival time into Cancun is not TOO late in the evening as your travel adventure is not yet over. We typically prefer to travel throughout mainland Mexico during the day and avoid being out at night just to be safe. If your flight gets in at night, consider making an adventure out of staying in either Cancun or Playa del Carmen for the evening and continuing travel to Cozumel the next morning If you are departing out of Cancun, please make sure your flight is not TOO early in the morning to allow enough time to travel from Cozumel island to Cancun airport
Once in Cancun, a taxi, bus or private car will need to be taken to get to the Playa del Carmen Ferry Terminal to Cozumel. A private car can be arranged ahead of time through the airport (most expensive option, may be able to share with other groups of guests), a taxi can be easily found at the airport and should take about 45 mins and cost around $75. A clean and inexpensive public bus called Ado is another option from the airport and makes a stop at ferry terminal - cost around $12. When you arrive to Playa del Carmen Ferry Terminal plaza, walk past the large statue in the center of plaza and towards the actual ferry terminal. There should be multiple kiosks available to purchase ferry tickets from Playa to Cozumel along the way. Purchase a one-way ticket. Ferry schedule should have at least one ferry boat leaving on the hour if not more frequently. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to kill time in while waiting for the next ferry. Ferry takes 35 mins and cost around $15
YES! You can now fly from Cancun to Cozumel Island on MayaAir for $60/each way. MayaAir is a very reputable smaller aircraft airline that offers local flights within the Yucatan. We have taken this flight many times. Not only is it SO EASY, it is a BEAUTIFUL and short flight. As of mid-February, MayaAir is just getting back up and running after shutting down during Covid. The website has the information on flight times and days but still waiting on instructions on how to book. More info should be available soon. Use this link to see flight days and times available: https://www.mayair.com.mx/itinerario.html
Both the airport and the Ferry terminal are located in the Cozumel Downtown area. A taxi should be very easy to get from either location and take about 10 mins to get to either Playa Azul Hotel or Westin.
YES! Per the CDC website as of 3/28/22: If you plan to travel internationally, you will need to get a COVID-19 viral test (regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) NO MORE THAN 1 DAY BEFORE YOU TRAVEL BY AIR INTO THE UNITED STATES. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. Click below for the most up to date info per CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html The Hotels do offer Covid tests (unsure of the costs right now but price continues to go down - I want to say we paid $15-$25 / test last visit) and can be scheduled ahead of time to be taken at the Hotel. It is best to have the test done the day before you travel (just make sure you have no more than 24 hours from time of test to take-off). The results typically only take a few hours to process. When you check in for your return flight home, there is an app you can download so that you can upload your test results directly for ease at check-in. You can also have the results emailed directly to you and show to the agent when checking in for the flight at the airport - whichever is easier!
