How does anyone meet during the pandemic? Online of course! I am sure many of you are aware of the "Swipe Left/Right" concept that is online dating now, but for those of you who are not, here is online dating in a nutshell. You make a profile on which ever dating platform of your choosing, you add a short bio, and add several pictures of yourself, as well as some interests. Once you do that you add filters like what age range and gender preference. Now back to the story. Here I am swiping on the dating platform of my choice, and I come across Brianna's profile, and I swiped right (meaning I wanted to match with her). On this particular platform it will notify you of who liked you and you can then choose to swipe left/right (match or not), as well as gives you the option to revisit the people you have previously swiped left on, in case you made a mistake. A few days go by, and I was like well damn, guess she did not want to swipe right on me. *Insert sad here* Another few days go by, and I was notified that I had a new match and who was it? Brianna! We finally get to go on our first date that was the most interesting first date we have EVER been on, but that is another story! Finally, a few weeks after we were officially dating, she informed me that at first, she swiped LEFT ON ME. She claims it was a mistake, (sure, sure), but I guess I forgave her for swiping left since we are getting married!
Alrighty everyone, buckle up, because this story is wild! So let me set the scene for everyone. I had been thinking about proposing to her for a little bit, (I know, I know. "It's only been a few months! That is too fast to get engaged to someone". But when you know, you just know!). Anyways, I have ordered a ring that was supposed to be delivered in 3/2022, and I figured it would live in the box in the top of my closet until I was ready to pop the question. (Please keep in mind that we had already discussed getting married, and that it was just a matter of who proposed first at this point). So, we had booked a Staycation at a hotel for a few nights for Valentine's Day and had dinner reservations at Duke's Waikiki (a restaurant on the beach) that evening. I had already planned on being super cheesy and buying some rose petals to decorate the room with and surprise her with it after dinner. (I was going to decorate while she got the car). WELL. I got a notification that her ring was going to be delivered on Valentine's Day. (If you know me, you understand that when it comes to presents and surprises, I have the will power of a leaf blowing in the wind). I decided that I was going to have it changed to pick up, so I could just grab a car and get down to FedEx and pick it up myself. I was TORN between waiting and doing it on V Day. I just could not decide! Fast forward to that day, I am on my way to leave the hotel and pick up the flower petals when I get a call from Brianna saying she got off work early and was heading to the hotel. CRAP! She did not know about my flower surprise! So, what did I do? I sent her to FedEx to pick up a package for me that "Could not be delivered to my house for some reason", (smooth, I know). I get back and put the flowers in the fridge, only to find out she cannot pick up the box for me... She then picks me up, and I get the box. I "have no idea what the package is, I forgot what I bought. Which is highly believable for me, or so I thought). We get all dressed up for dinner, (don't worry, the ring was hidden at this time, and she did not know about it). I have her go pick up the car and as I am decorating the bed with the flower petals I was like "Eff it. I'm gonna do it!". I used the rose petals to spell out Marry Me on the bed with a ?. Then used some orchids to circle the box. Then I go down and get in the car. I had already told her that I had a cheesy surprise for her, which was going to be the flowers at the time, so she knew I was setting that up. LET ME TELL YOU! I was so nervous I could hardly eat my dinner, and I eat every bit of my food at Duke's because the steak is THAT good. We finally get back to the hotel and I make her close her eyes, I turn on the lights, spin her around and what does she see?! The "Marry Me" flowers on the bed!! She then said "I thought you never wanted to be a Valentine's Day cliche?!". *Insert eye roll here* After that she ultimately said yes! Clearly, since we are getting married. SHE THEN TELLS ME THAT SHE WAS PLANNING ON BUYING A RING TO PROPOSE TO ME THAT SUMMER. Guess I beat her to the punch. *Insert sly grin here*
