Thames Street is the heart of downtown Newport. This is where you'll find the bulk of the restaurants, shopping and breathtaking views. The shopping goes from Washington Square to King Park and along the way you'll see Bowen's Wharf, which is a must. Having a hard time getting to the right place? Put Brick Alley or the Black Pearl in your GPS. Follow signs for public parking if the streets are busy.
Ocean Drive is a 10 mile road that will show you all the best of Newport. Begin on Bellevue Ave (near Salve Regina) and put Brenton Point State Park in your GPS. Ocean Ave will take you past historic properties and mansions, the rugged coast at the southern end of the island and will take you past Kay and Tyler's venue. When Kay and Tyler were dating, they would go down ocean drive between classes. They saw many sunsets there!
Kay and Tyler started their journey together on the cliff walk - a 3.5 mile path that winds along Newport's coastline. It starts by Easton's Beach, but there are convenient places to park and pick it up near Salve Regina at Narragansett Ave, Webster Ave, and Ruggles Ave. You'll walk through Salve's Campus, past the Breakers Mansion and if you go through the second tunnel, you'll see where Tyler proposed to Kay. *Areas of the cliff walk are difficult to access and may not be right for people with limited mobility.
Kay and Tyler's favorite beach destination on the island. What else can we say? It's perfect! Parking fees may be in effect during the weekend of our wedding. If you plan to go down just to catch a sunset or sunrise, you won't need to pay the daily parking fees. If you continue up the road, you'll end up at the wildlife preservation if you want to do some exploring.
Newport is the sailing capital of the world - if you have the time, why not explore Newport Harbor by boat? There are many different tour services from sailboats (link is to Newport Sail) to harbor cruises. Kay and Tyler have done many of them through different events and they have all been great!
