How We Met

In Spring of 2014, Katy was in the height of her dancing career, on the Houston Hepcats (a professional swing dance group affiliated with Houston Swing Dance Society). She wanted to make a choreography to Aladdin's "Friend Like Me" but needed a partner. Also in Spring of 2014, Thomas had just made it onto the Prepcats, which was the B team for the Hepcats. (He made it onto the Hepcats later and has since far surpassed Katy's dancing abilities.) After some joint practices, Katy thought Thomas had the humor she wanted to incorporate in her choreography, and she asked him to help her create it. What followed was 6 months of friendship, followed by an awesome performance at Harvest Moon Ball. Another 4 months later they started dating, and the rest is history! https://youtu.be/t24DYki4IQg ^^Seriously you should watch this.

The Proposal

February 8, 2019

Katy and Thomas were leaving early on the morning of February 9th for a thoroughly-planned and highly anticipated week-long trip to Walt Disney World to celebrate her 30th birthday on the 14th. The day of the 8th, Katy was at work, frantically trying to tie up loose ends for while she was away, and her coworkers were wonderful and celebrated her birthday early with decorations and custom Disney donuts. At 2:30 pm, she received an email from "The Royal Herald for Prince Thomas". In it was an introduction and a link to a video. Its style was like the silent films - sepia tone, complete with ragtime music. It told the story of Prince Thomas, who found a Princess's shoe (it was Katy's shoe!!) and vowed to find its owner. Thinking it clearly must just be a birthday thing, Katy showed a couple coworkers. When the 2nd video came 30 minutes later, they rushed over to watch. More videos came every 30 minutes - Prince Thomas gets on his horse, finds a clue that contains a map to Princess Kathryn's castle, then gets lost and has to ask for directions. By the time the 4th video came in, her coworkers made Katy project it in a conference room so everyone could see. The videos said the Princess would return to her castle between 5:30 and 5:45, so Katy made sure she wasn't late! When she parked her car, she saw Thomas standing outside in Prince clothing, holding her shoe. Around him were castle banners draped on the fence, lights, rose petals, and the chair from their living room. Thomas told Princess Kathryn that he had found her shoe and asked if he could see if it fits. He led her to the chair, and successfully put the shoe on her foot. With that, he said "Can I see if something else fits?" and pulled out a ring. When Katy said "yes!", the Fantasmic music began playing and fireworks were projected onto the fence in front of them. They went inside, where their families were lying in wait to celebrate!
