We met online, and our first date was at a bar. Classy, we know. But just like that we hit it off. In the shallow world of dating, it was refreshing to meet another person whom you could have deep and meaningful conversations with right from the start. I followed him to the northern tundra that is Buffalo, not knowing a damn thing about the city except that it is cold. And everyone questioned my sanity when I told them where I was moving. Temperature aside, we came to love the old charm of the rusty city, and will forever cherish memories of the first apartment we shared, the first fight we had after I moved all his stuff around (which in my defense, was not in any kind of organized system), and being able to explore an exciting new city. We survived our first move together to Charleston, and the purchasing of our first house. After surviving two weeks of sleeping on air mattresses, eating anything we were able to cook in the microwave, and living out of suitcases, we knew it was destined to be if we made it through that debacle fairly peacefully. After being nagged by all his fellow Coasties, Thomas finally found it to be the perfect time and popped the question. Under a big old oak tree in White Point Gardens (which you can visit at the end of the Battery here in Charleston), away from all the crowds, and with his sister creepily taking pictures, he proposed. And being the awkward person I am, the first thing I said was, “What are you doing?” But I of course said yes, and that brings us up to speed, with our wedding underway. We have fallen in love with Charleston, and that is why we decided to get married in this city, with the hopes of our friends and family joining in on the celebration.
