Despite living only five minutes apart for much of their lives, Katie and Robert would not formally meet until they matched on Tinder. It was May of 2017, and the pair agreed to meet at Foxy’s Ice Cream for their first date. Once they had gotten their cold treats, they sat and began to talk, and laugh, and realize how intertwined their lives already were. You see, Katie went to church and school at Cross Lutheran in Yorkville, which is also where Robert’s cousins, Matt and Kelsey, went. The pair also found out that one of Robert’s best friends, Jacob, has known Katie and her family since they were kids. Not to mention Katie and Robert went to the same high school and that Robert’s mom saw Katie graduate from said high school. All these details, these small pockets of time that connected them together, yet it took a dating app for them to find each other. The rest is history. Their love flourished and continued to grow. They helped support each other through their teaching programs, enjoyed lunch specials at Sakamoto and bonfires with their closest friends. Then on one brisk February day in Chicago, Robert got down on one knee to ask his best friend to spend the rest of her life with him. What was supposed to be a late Valentine's Day celebration in Chicago, turned into a memory the happy couple won’t soon forget. And here we are. Celebrating how those little moments and unlikely connections turned into a celebration Katie and Robert have been dreaming of since they first met down by Foxy’s Ice Cream.
